slow printing docs

Why would pdf format documents print extremely slow? One page, then a long wait, then the next page...... Every so often I accept an assignment and this occurs. I would like to understand better how this can be remedied, if it can. Anyone able and willing to explain?

Do a search for "PDF" and "SLOW". You will find many messages. In particular, msg #18810 describes the most common reason for slow printing PDF files.
