Linda are you a newbie? Florida, I'm sure has it's limits on what you can charge, why ask people on this board?

Ilene, I think you know I'm not new...
and I wanted to throw it out for opinions...sorry if you object to that.

anytime you ask the board a question you can expect to get at least one sarcastic comment. I guess it is the nature of the beast!! So take heart - We are not all so critical

You are a professional - $40 travel fee, $10 for the certificate = $50

According to the previous FL Secretary of State and former Attorney General, travel fees must be "reasonable and customary". That is, they must be in line with others who offer similar services, or it may be considered excessive.
Given that, a 9 mile trip (one way) is not all that far. You probably drive further to go to the grocery store. So, with 2 certs (@ $10) and 18 miles (@ $1.25 rounded to $25), comes to $45. Fair enough?

Thank you all who responded to the question
The funniest thing is you all quoted a fee higher than what I quoted this lady today....she had a Mortgage and a Lien Affidavit she needed notarized and she was totally unaware that a fee would be involved for that service. She agreed to the fee then caught me a mile up the road to tell me she didn't need me any more...
I just don't understand people who assume we do pro bono work...

Re: Thank you all who responded to the question
I have been receiving many calls for general notarizations all of a sudden and I also have had a few asking if the service was free. I wonder why someone would think I would gladly drive to their location and notarize their docs for free. Incredible!
