Anyone have any advice on laser printers???
I need to buy a new printer. Im looking for something fast and that can print lots of copies per ink cartridge. Oh and economical as well. Anyone have any suggestions?

The HP2015X is a 2 drawer printer that might fill the bill for you. You can buy 7000 page replacement cartridges on e-bay for about $40 and then refill them at least once for about $15. Printing on legal paper though, you will probably only get approximately 2000-2500 pages. The 7000 page number the dealers tell you it will print is an optimum number for use on letter size paper at a 5% coverage rate. However, I think the price is still worth it. Costco generally has a good price for the printer and there also may be a rebate from HP that you can look for. Also, probably the best part of it in my opinion is thattech support from HP is real good. They will help with setup and any ongoing issues.

I have an HP 1320 tn duel tray printer that has printed over 27000 copies flawlessly. This year I bought a new (from HP) HP P2015X duel tray printer (they don't make the 1320 anymore) It worked fine. Until my computer cratered...I bought a new computer..running Vista..the P2015x will not work properly (they say it's Vista complient..lies!!) The printer only 'sees' the bottom tray (#3 in the x model) so if you put legal there it prints legal, if you put letter there, it prints letter. I paid almost $700 for a non functioning "duel tray" $200 printer. Hp says ...sorry....ST! We 'll find a fix someday...I love my old 1320..it still works like a charm...Don't buy a 2015...some moron took a good thing and fixed/updated it to where it's crap!

Well, my first advice is to make sure that you know
the difference between laser and inkjet printers. Laser printers use toner, not ink. For documents, I'd suggest you always use laser. (Though I know some here do use ink-based printers.)
Also, shop around, watch sales, read reviews and look for rebates.
I just picked up a Brother HL-5250DNT. After rebates, a coupon and a nice discount because the company screwed up delivery... I paid $59 for it. I love it, and it's a dual tray. I'm not sure about toner life just yet, but I've also got a Brother HL-5240 that works great. Some people have had trouble with this line of printers, but I haven't. For the 5240, I always buy the high-yield toner cartridge. I find I only have to change the toner out every 5-6 months. By theory, it should be more often, but my toner just lasts forever for some reason. I print substantially, too.
A few months back, I also got a deal on a color laser from Office Depot. After rebate, the LasterJet CP1215 cost only $99. I've printed quite a lot on the starter cartridges and still have 75-80% of the toner remaining.

Re: Thats amazing
I have a Brother HL-5240 and change the high yield toner approx every other month. I even have it on toner save.

I shake it a lot and keep using it
until the printer won't use it at all anymore. I don't just change it the first time the toner light comes on. I don't know how I manage to go that long, but it's definitely every 5-6 months or so. I also only print when absolutely necessary, too. I can't stand having too much paper "stuff" around. I prefer to leave the paper to my book collections.
The 5250 is great because it is a duplexer, too. Heaven!

I use a HP 2025dn and I added an extra tray for both size papers. I am very happy.

I believe HP printers use more toner than any others, as that is where their large profit margin is. I suggest Brother MFC 8860 & DN for network, and always order the cartridge for 5,000 copies. These are great quality, and I find the best pricing is not at retail stores, but at www.costco.com
Good luck

Jim, how much do you pay for the cartridge (5,000 copies)? n/m

I have NEVER heard that before
I have 2 HP 4200 dual trays and I get about 12500 prints out of my aftermarket 12000 page rated cartridges. The best is that I get them for $25 - $35 on Ebay including shipping.
The problem with the Brothers is that there are other expensive consumables that have to be replaced whereas the HP consumables are all in the toner cartridge.

If you use the orange search button you will find this topic has been discussed before. If you're shopping HP, be sure to check out HPshopping.com & check out "refurbished" printers. Someone also posted about www.cheapprinters.com.

There's no harm in discussing it again every so often...
As technology changes and new models come out while others are discontinued, it could be that people have something else to say.

DON'T BUY HP!!! - I HAVE A HP OFFICEJET PRO L7780 - I ONLY GET THROUGH MAYBE 1000 SHEETS OF PAPER BEFORE I HAVE TO PUT IN A NEW INK CARTRIDGE - I HAVE HAD BETTER LUCK WITH BROTHER PRINTERS.
THE PRINTERS IN GENERAL HAVE ATTRACTIVE FEATURES BUT IT IS THE INK REPLACEMENT COMPONENT THAT IS EXPENSIVE OVER SHORT PERIOD OF TIME

Juanita - "ink" is your problem.
Using inkjet rather than laser printers is extremely expensive. You're lucky you were able to print 1000 sheets.
Laser is the way to go in the notary business. You can print five times the above and refill toner cartridges for around $10 each.
Ink jet is slow and expensive. Get a laser printer.

3 months ago, I replaced my old laserjet with a HP2015dn and added an additional tray for legal. It's fast, reliable, and easy to configure. I also have a Brother MFC 8860DN which also serves as a printer, but now I use it mainly for fax, copy, & scanning. The HP2015dn is one of the best printers out there for small businesses...I highly recommend this printer for anyone, in this business, currently shopping for a printer. Good Luck.
