Benefits of certification
I haven't been "certified" for several years. Like many, I joined the Numbnuts Notary Asses when I first became a signing agent six years ago, then dropped the certification -- and the membership -- not too long thereafter when it became apparent it was a worthless organization with its hand in my pocket.
However, I've been rethinking the certification thing.
My general notary work is well on its way to an increase of +80% this year; why, I don't know. I haven't done anything to promote or market it. Perhaps it's just that the records service companies have grown comfortable with using me. But business from the general public has also increased on the same order of magnitude. With the general public, I have found that almost without exception those using my services have been to my web site.
It has occurred to me that it might be beneficial to indicate on the site that I'm certified by somebody. Joe Sixpak generally would not have any idea whether certification has any significance, but it should sound good to him.
Certification is not something I have paid any attention to for years, so I'm not conversant with what's available. Any suggestions, thoughts, darts or arrows?

Hugh, great question! I have been wondering about this too. I would like others input in this as well. I like the distinction myself and would like to know does it make a difference or not?

Hugh, I would think that Attorney At Law would be better than any crappy certification. Do you get to keep that designation when you retire? Besides that you are probably the only attorney in the country that has a clue about notary law with one or two exceptions.

She did have a trust fund, before Wall Street began doing its imitation of 1929. No liquor store and no bass boat, though she does have an exceptional prow and stern.

I'm not going to open a debate about the value of NXX membership. I did go for the Certification/BCG check thing, because my competition had it. Having the credentials has paid big dividends. It actually more than paid for itself. If you saw my post last week, I received a check for $1,000 in a class action suit settlement against LexisNexis. We all laughed about it--how much I had really benefited from the BCG.

Hey Guys If you are doing good/great buz why bother. I have certification with the theifs (NNA) and it does me no good. Cause no one uses the site, when I get a call I ask how they found me it's never NNA.
