Blog Etiquette
Do you blog? If so, you may have an answer for me. Let's say NotRot allowed us to have a blog on our profiles. Let's also say that we had a profile on a competitor's side and we blogged there too. Well, my question is this, "Once I blog something on NotRot can I cut and paste the same blog material on another site - as long as it's my blog and my original material?" Or....does blog material become the property of the site where it is posted? TIA.

I don't blog, but if you wrote it, it's yours to do what you want with it. It's the authorship that establishes copyright, not the medium.

Original "intellectual property" remains the property of the author unless specifically relinquished. Some sites do state in their terms that anything posted on that site becomes their property. Typically, though, that is not the case, but you would need to investigate it to be sure.
If the posting is your property, it is protected by copyright laws immediately and without you having to do anything special. You would then have the right to copy and paste the same information on as many places as you so desire.

Blogs don't really exist in a profile per se. Blogs are entities in their own right. There really is no need to post blog content in multiple locations... that kind of defeats the purpose of the blog. Copying and pasting the same content across multiple sites an forums isn't really the best approach because it can be seen as spamming. Your best bet is to maintain a blog in one location and then provide a link to it in your various profiles (if allowed). If people want the content, they can go to it through your profile.
Some sites offer a blogging feature. I believe ActiveRain does does that. Others put a blog on their professional websites as a part of their overall site.
When my website launches, it will have a blog integrated in the site itself.
