Century Doc email

They are requesting my BGC. I have never worked for them. Why would I send them it and how did I get in their data base?

I got it, also. I'm not sure why Darla Rock's name is familiar. Does she have a reputation here? (good or bad?)

Haven't heard a word from them in over 2 years. Got it also.

Darla Rock appears to have a good reputation,

according to the orange search button.

I also got that email. I sent them an email asking why they are asking for my BGC since I've never done a closing for them.

They never even replied to my e-mail.

What a great way to get personal information!!! The BGC I have lists my name, all of my aka's, my social security number, etc.

Background Checks

I just looked at one that was performed in 2004. At that time, I had already had 14 background checks done. As far as I knew, I had only had five done. One for the school where I used to work, One for church (I was a Sunday school teacher), and one for each of the states I was commissioned in at the time (MN, WI and IA).

I'm sure that four years later there are hundreds that have it. Scary, right?!

Well, as I have done work for Darla, I didn't think anything about her request. And before you think that I am the only one who got the email and faxed my BGC, I will tell you that their fax machine was busy for at least an hour today that I know of because my fax kept getting a busy signal. I had no reason, having worked for her for several years that she wanted it for anything other than the reason she stated in her email.

It absolutely boggles my mind why so many on this board look at every opportunity (or possible opportunity) with such a jaundiced view. No, I'm not naive or inexperienced (or even young). This is a business and it is your perogative if you want to turn down business opportunity and always look on everything as "a glass half full". Of course, that may be why I've been able to survive this downturn. Business isn't like it was 5 years ago or even 2 years ago or even 1 year ago, but by trying not to leave any stone unturned I'm surviving.

PS I just looked again at my BGC and it does have my address (so does my profile which is linked), it only has the last 4 digits of my SS #.

If I do business with a company, it wouldn't alarm me, but I NEVER did business with this company. Why would anyone send all of their personal information to a company that you never heard of? If you ever had your identity stolen, you would taken a different view on this subject.

I am looking at the report right now. This one in particular was done by ACXIOM. It has my maiden name, married name, all aka's, my FULL social security number, phone number, address, some misc. information and the number of inquiries on file.

Way too much information for someone I've never done business with.

Re: What boggles my mind ...

**It absolutely boggles my mind why so many on this board look at every opportunity (or possible opportunity) with such a jaundiced view. No, I'm not naive or inexperienced (or even young).**

is the number of people that see absolutely nothing wrong with faxing material, emailing or even cell phone conversations, and believing the communications are secure. I've had my dedicated fax machine with it's own separate phone line since 1992. You'd be surprised the number of "burped" transmissions I've *accidentally* received because of crossed phone lines or other unknown reason, when it's obvious that the sender entered a completely different fax number (a number that was not even similar to mine) and hit send. Over the years I've received all sorts of personal and confidential information from mis-transmitted or mis-received transmissions that an identity thief would go crazy with. If there is a cover sheet with a voice number listed, I always contact them and advise about the *stray* transmission and cross-shred the papers -- wonder how many crossed faxes simply end up *intact* in a trash can?

By my own choice, I do very few signings anymore. However, in the past when required to fax miscellaneous pages for quality check approval, I always redacted BOs personal and confidential information. As for faxing my own personal, private and confidential information to an unknown company that I've never dealt with simply because they requested it -- I would never do it. As for Century Doc and Darla, I received the same email -- however, it's probably been 2-1/2 years since Darla has contacted me regarding a signing, so why would I immediately jump and provide my background check?

Darla is always good to work for

and I faxed her my info today too... Fax machine busy when I tried as well. She might have closings in the areas of the notaries public that she sent the email to. If she calls you, then she would have the information ready... Just my opinion, as I have not spoken to her. She treats notaries fairly and does her best to pay a reasonable fee. I take all I can get from her. Thanks to be given for an honest person running a signing service.
