Employee at Countrywide sold my ID

We were notified by countrywide that a former employee sold our ID to a third party. Did anyone else have this happen to them?

I got a letter from them about a month ago saying that a employee sold info on customers and for us to watch to make sure no one was using are names.

In an unrelated incident...

my mother received a letter from an unrelated co. that her info had been 'lost'. They offered a free credit report plus a 'credit freeze/lift/& refreeze'...which, supposedly, costs $20/pop. Just interesting...the difference in the way one co. handles a 'loss' and another handles outright info theft. Aside: and e-signing is safe, too.... hmmmmm

Just had borrowers this morning bring this up-

CW paid for the freeze/report for a certain period (a year, I think,) and so they refi'd again with CW. They were'nt happy though.

I did a closing for a couple about 2 weeks ago and they informed me about this Countrywide ID theft. The purpose of their refinance was to move their mortgage from Countrywide as a result of this issue. Supposedly, they had their ID's stolen by this employee months ago, then found out that the wife's id was used for some fraudent activity, and as a result they joined a class action suit filed against Countrywide for damages as a result of this Identity theft.

That's odd...because if it were the Pasadena guy...

That data hasn't been used, or that nobody has actually reported that it's been used:

==========
"We have no evidence to date to indicate that any customer has been the victim of identity theft or fraud."

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, most if not all of the information was sold to people in the mortgage industry as leads; to make new pitches.

How much you want to bet that the company doing the Refi bought their name from the thief and pitched them the loan. If her name was used elsewhere, it probably wasn't because of the CW theft, but something else.

Re: That's odd...because if it were the Pasadena guy...

Is this the same occurance mentioned in the news about a month ago or more? Or is this yet another incident of someone from Countrywide loosing or someone selling client info?

I, too, got a letter about a month ago, saying some employee of theirs had gained access to my ID info to sell it. Evidently, Countrywide is getting me a credit monitoring service for a while, to help me out with protecting my information. Kinda like shutting the corral gate after the horses are already out.
