Finding a notary by their commission number
I need to locate a notary that notarized some documents in 2006 and ask them some questions. I have their name, county, and commission number but have so far failed to locate them through the CA secretary of state website, yellow or white page searches. The only hit I got is a facebook profile matching the name and city. I've e-mailed the account holder but so far that's all I have. Any help out there?

You could always contact the County Clerk, too.
Or, call the SOS and ask them directly. Their name and business location address are considered public information.

Perhaps they are no longer a notary?

How long are notaries required to keep their files. This is a really big deal since I'm building a case against someone for fraud.

If you are refering to journals it is by whatever the state you are interested in. In WI we are not required to keep journals. I do and when I am no longer a notary I am required to turn it in to the local county clerk. I do not keep an actual paperwork. Not required again and I see it as a liability hold others personal activity and often extensive I dentity and financial arrangements. The trail of evidence for court actions is all in the journal.
