I am looking at replacing my current laptop and am looking at a Toshiba because it has a built in 10 key number pad which I need for tax preparing. Does anyone have any experience with Toshiba specifically with the AMD processor?

I looked at the Toshiba when I was shopping here just a couple of weeks ago, but decided on the HP Pavilion, it also has the AMD processor and the keypad, since I do so many spreadsheets.

I prefer it, I spent $699 plus the two year extended warranty of $199, due to portability and greater likelihood of dropping, banging it around on planes, trains and automobiles. Additionally, thre is a $50 rebate right now.

I love HP's product, it is a good performer and aesthetically very professional and clean in appearance, I bought two of them.

I've had Toshiba notebooks for many years and have always been very happy with them.
I traveled every week, more than half of it internationally so I went with the Protégé for it's size and weight but I've had others and all have been very reliable. I still use my Protégé 2000.

My Toshiba is 4 yrs young already. I have loved it. I haven't had a single issue. My son bought a HP pavillion and has had several problems with it. I normally don't buy the extended warranty, but glad I did on the HP. I have needed it twice.

I'm on my second Toshiba...

I have a Toshiba Satellite and I just love it. Between the two Toshiba's I had a Sony Vaio -- also quite good, but I prefer the Toshiba.

I just bought a round of Dells for for our office and they're okay... but I won't be using them thankfully. I far prefer the setup of the Toshiba and the port/card reader locations.

As for the 10-key... the integrated one is nice, but I just use a wireless one now because I'm left-handed and the integrated 10-key is more to the right as it is on standard keyboards. I can put my 10-key to the left and life is so much easier. I use a wireless mouse on the right.

I also love the sound and speakers on my Toshiba... so much better than any speaker on any computer I have ever owned, and laptop sound is usually garbage.

Re: Lap top recommendations, I may be a fossilized

remnant of the Cold War but I have always avoided buying anything from Toshiba after they sold proprietary CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Machining technology to the then Soviet Union. Soviet subs had always been known for their noisy cruising and could be readily identified because of their sonic signature. Toshiba's passing on the technology allowed the Soviets to machine their propellors to a new standard of tolerance that renedered them as silent as ours. Anyway that being said I have always favored Hewlett Packard and they have several laptops with full keyboards including a ten key pad. If I remember correctly there is also a stand-alone 10 key pad available for laptops.
