NCCI
I was contacted the other day to sign with them to do inspections. I have never done them but have considered looking into them because so many of you on this board are and seem to find it a good fill-in business. As I always do, before signing with anyone new, I searched this board and read all of the comments on NCCI. I have about decided to not sign with them because of the problems since they hired “middlemen”. Before I make my final decision, I would like to know if any of you know if the situation has changed and if they have gone back to their original way of doing business. TIA.

Have not done many for anyone due to low pay/no volume. Was also contacted by this co. They have lowered their fees, for openers. And I really have some problems with the (lack of) criteria for an inspector having to re-do one---just cuz they say so. Maybe even go to a different location for a re-do (they have a word for this--I don't remember it.) This just seems to me to be a complete set up for abuse. So... I don't think sooooo.

I also got a phone call and packet to sign up with them. I'm concerned about the fees as well. The other thing that bothered me was that they asked for TWO copies of my drivers license in the packet - one seemingly just because, and the other for a background check. I was on the fence, but now I don't think I'll bother filling everything out.

Told me they pay $20 - $50
The big hangup for me is where they want to be able to debit my account. I asked my credit union about it and they said that is very unusual.

Apparently they are soliciting notaries from the list they obtained from one of the listing sites. I don't do inspections, because I can't see the profit in it. These are business inspections, for credit purposes. From what I was told they pay $25-$30 for inspection, paperwork & photos. I told them I wouldn't be interested unless the fee was $40-$50. I saw on another board that someone in CA was doing inspections for $6, was counting on doing tons per day, and was calculating a $24/hr return. I can't imagine that, but who knows.

The only way I see this venture paying off (for me) is if I get at least 3-4 in one trip...but to drop everything and go to one inspection wouldn't be worth it for me - it would entail a minimum 30 mile round trip (I'm at least 15 miles from ANYTHING), the time to and from, the time at the place and the reporting time after...still tossing it around but I'm not convinced it would be worth it for me.
And this is nothing against NCCI - it's the whole procedure.

I have been there and done that. It is NOT worth it. They do not give you volume, therefore to get a call to do one inspection if not worth it. They told me $15 and you have to make an appointment. Many times the people forget and are not there for the appointment and they could care less. They said they only take 15-20 minutes NOT. You have to count drive -time and report time. The inspections I do pay way more. I had also signed up with Complytrac and they paid $25 and were not worth it either. I made $600 on Wednesday doing 8 inspections, now that's worth it.

I work for CWIS, LLC out of Colorado and they are a contractor for HUD. They are only in Florida, Georgia, Alabama. You need to contact your local HUD office to see who does their "SPI" Special Property Inspections" they contract the inspections out.

"They told me $15 and you have to make an appointment"
That was another thing they said that had me going "hmmm"...THEY make the appointment and tell me when to be there - doesn't sound like the inspections I've heard about where you have 3 days or so to get it done (like I can do it when I'm in the area)..

I decide what I'm going to be paid.
They called me a few days ago and told me what they pay. I said no, here's what I charge (I quoted my general travel notarization fee). They agreed to add me to their database and sent me a package. They were honest and said their schedulers would call the cheaper people first and call me after that. Great. If I hear from them, I'll make the fee that I set. If there's an idiot in my area that wants to work for twenty dollars then fine, nothing lost.
As someone else mentioned, they told me these were set appointments not open date and times. If they were open date and times and I could bunch several together or work them in as I'm in an area I would have been receptive to a lower fee (but still not $15 or $20).

Re: NCCI
Depends. They met my $50 per order. They gave me 16 orders to do in a in several towns, so I made $800 that day. But I won't do the $35 1 order 45 mins away.

Hello all, I have read all of your comments and can understand why you are a bit reluctant to start as an inspector for NCCI or any on-site inspection company. May I just say, please do not let the "Chases or re-chases" scare you away. NCCI has made vast improvements within the past few months and you will not be disappointed if you sign up to do inspections. The average pay to complete an onsite is $30.00. They have removed the middlemen on the on-site inspeciton piece so you will be dealing with their scheduling specialist directly. There is a large opportunity for other inspection work for you such as - property condition report inspections, external inspections, loan modifications, etc. Please do not let prior experinces turn you away from building a partnership with NCCI. Trust me... you will not be disappointed once the New NCCI on-site division kicks in within the next week. Send in your packets. They do not deduct any funds from your account though ACH. This is only a way for you to get your pay directly deposited into your account quickly. You don't have to do direct deposit, but for your sake, it is alot quicker and "VERY SAFE".
NCCI does require a background check be completed, but this is only for the safety of their clients/customers and you. Because they are working with banking institutions, Credit bureaus and data furnishers - quality inspectors are a necessity. You only need to provide one clear copy of your drivers license (This is for a photo id card they will provide to you) once you pass the background check and are set-up as a independent on-site inspector.
Thank you for your time. If you have any questions... please respond to this message. I will answer any questions you may have.
