Outlook - HELP

I am trying to export my outlook files from a computer that has Vista on it to my computer with XP - problem is each time I try to do the export Outlook starts to not respond and I have to keep restarting it - my sister said there should be some sort of file that I could copy from one computer to the other to save my outlook email, etc. onto the computer with XP - does anyone know where that file might be? I'm dumping Vista on this new one and reloading XP but need to get everything off of it - unfortunately I don't have a rewritable on the new one yet but I can copy files to a shared folder and access that folder from the old computer.

Load the XP cd and boot the computer from cd. Very Easy.

Go into your BIOS and make the comp boot from cd instead of HD.

well didn't go as well as I thought it would - there are a bunch of files that can't be copied from my XP disk and now it won't set up correctly.

The only good way to get rid of Vista.....

and go to XP is to reformat the harddrive and start over. That's why I made Dell take a laptop back - Vista stunk THAT bad. I bought an XP computer before Dell discontinued using it.

Outlook was one of the reasons I got rid of Vista. EVERYTHING is in my Outlook and Vista does not like outlook. You would think Microsoft's wonderful new operating system would play nice with thier own software - but no.

Re: The only good way to get rid of Vista.....

It's so odd... I've had a laptop with Vista for over a year now and I've not had one single problem except for a small number of software programs that weren't compatible. I use Outlook all day long, too. Not that I'm a champion of Microsoft or anything, it's just so weird to hear people complain of things I've never seen. I guess I'm lucky?

Only problem seems to be a window I have to close everytime I boot up saying that my printer isn't recognized or something like that. It works just fine, though. The scanner feature doesn't fully work the way it's supposed to, but I don't think it ever really did. I use Outlook, too.

Anyone know a good way to reformat the hard drive so I can try to load XP again? I could not get XP to load right - couldn't copy some files and therefore XP won't load. I am at my wits end. Used to be you could go to DOS and type format c: and it would work but I can't figure out how to get there.

Re: The only good way to get rid of Vista.....

There's a free program called DBAN (google it for more info) that will wipe the hard drive clean; you can then install XP, which will detect that the drive is blank and reformat it automatically. I've used it dozens of time without a glitch (I do some volunteer work refurbishing donated PCs for a
local community group), but if you've never done something like this before it can be a challenge...

Before you even consider doing this, make sure you have an installable copy of XP - otherwise, you WILL turn the computer into an expensive paperweight... If you want to go the DBAN route, PM me and I can give you more detailed info on how to set it up.
