Receiving the new commission.

I submitted all of my paperwork and fingerprints by the end of May. Does any one know when I will finally hear from the SOS with my new commission so I can begin to get my bond, E&O and be sworn in. My commission expires on 12/10

The best place to begin your inquiry might be the SOS to confirm receipt of your renewal information.

Well, per the SOS's website...

"If you took the exam at least six weeks prior to the expiration date on your current commission, your new commission will not be sent to you more than 30 days before the expiration date."

So basically, there's nothing wrong. You will get your new packet sometime after November 10th, I'm guessing.

I sent mine in last Dec. and received it about 3 weeks before my commission expired in May. You might want to call SOS (I did and they had just mailed it that day).

Thanks, I'm just not one to wait until the last minute to do things. I think you should be notified as soon as they get all the info back even if they don't sent the commission, at least let you know that every thing is okay.

Apparently, there is quite a backlog they are trying to work through, so they have their hands full enough with what they are doing. Besides, they make it very clear in the handbook that you won't be notified until 30 days before your commission expires. Also, consider how many renewals they are dealing with. They'd need additional staff to add more notifications -- and we wouldn't want to have to pay for that, would we? Wink

THe really weird thing about this "backlog"....

is that we have heard from several sources that fewer people are taking the exam, which I would assume means fewer people are applying for or renewing commissions.

If that's the case, then why the backlog? You'd think their workload would actually be lighter by now.

I suppose state budget cuts might have a part in it, though. That's the only thing I can think might be causing the backlog.

Re: THe really weird thing about this "backlog"....

Could be. All I know is that it's making me some money filling in for people who didn't get their class and exam done in time and are still waiting for their renewal materials. So I won't be complaining about it! (Besides, thanks to this board, I had heard there was a backlog and took my exam four months before my commission expired earlier this year, and did get my new commission in time. Thank goodness -- and Notary Rotary!!)

Mamie if your concerned call the sos and they will tell you if they have everything and its all good or not.But you will not get your new commission until 30 days before your present one is to expire. I acually recieved my renewal 3 weeks before and that is plenty of time do get everything else.
Go ahead and order everything bond,e&o new supplies ect. from Harry he will just not send your stamp until you get your commission and order from the sos,but it will be ready to be made asap when he gets it. If your ordering you Bond and E&O from the same company you have now they will date it for the end of your old commission,or old date on them I should say.
good luck
