The closing I ended up not doing!

I had a closing on my calendar for about 1 week, it was on a week night, and at pizza & grinder restaraunt. The TC insisted that even though spouse was signing a deed relinquishing his marital rights, he had to sign spousal docs, so he had to be at the closing. I was not to start unless he was there. I got to closing 15 minutes early, at 5:45pm, sat at the table in front of the front door, so you had to walk by me when you walked in. Had brief case on the table with borrowers huge file with the last name on a big sticker on the outside of the file. Anybody walking buy could tell I was not there for dinner. At 6:14 a woman and 7/8 year old girl walk in, as she walks by I ask if she is "Ms. Doe", she gives me a dirty look, grabs her kid away from me, and goes and orders dinner. They then go and sit in front of the TV's. I call TC at 6:20 stating that borrowers are not there, I have another closing at 7:30 so I will be leaving shortly since I know they will only pay me a partial fee for a no show. I'm asked to wait 10 more minutes, and I do. In the meantime I've left messages at the borrowers home and office, no reply. Her cell phone goes to vm.

At 6:40 I'm sitting in my car, called the TC and said I was leaving. I notice that same woman and little girl are sitting outside on the side porch or the restaraunt eating. I drive off, about 4 miles down the road, I get a call from a nasty woman saying that I'd left a message that I was at the grinder place, and I was never there, she was waiting for me. She yelled, called me names, etc. She said she expected me to drive back and show her my food receipt to prove I'd been there, I explain that I'm there to work, not eat, and didn't order. She again says I'm a liar. I said, are you alone or with someone, she got angry at the question. I said you are supposed to be with your husband, and no couple walked in. She yells that she's there with her daughter. I ask if she is a 7/8 year old in a pick flowered dress, she finally shuts up. I said I asked if you were Ms. Doe when you walked in, and you walked away from me. If you fully intended on doing your closing, why were you sitting outside, on a side porch, that no one can see when they walk in the front door? She says they wanted to eat, so she didn't pay any attention to me, and ignores my question about being outside. She starts yelling again that I need to go back there right now, so I ask where her husband is. She doesn't know, I ask if he's coming to the closing, and she says maybe. I asked her if she had intended to have me sit there and wait for a husband that wasn't showing up, she says she wanted to sign her portion of the docs, and I tell her that there is no closing without both of them, she then swears some more. I hang up.

I call the TC and apologize, tell them that if the hubby shows, that I will not be driving back to do this closing. It is now 7pm, and hubby isn't there, and I don't think she ever intended him to be there.

I don't know what happened, but I got a nice not of apology from 2 people at the TC stating that the borrower wasn't very nice.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a borrower would waste an hour of my time, my gas and my paper so she could first feed her face, then not have all parties at the closing. I hate when these things happen!

Further evidence that the # of horses' a$$es far exceeds...

the # of horses.
It'a called "dealing with the public."
Fortunately , the vast majority of signers that I have dealt wtih
were just fine.
Move on to the next one.

This one was a couple weeks ago, but as I was sitting here

printing docs, for a borrower with a similar name, I thought about it again and about the waste of time, gas and paper!! (it was a huge FHA loan, so it was a lot of paper) I get on fine with 99% of the borrowers that I close, even though I'm NOT a people person. I'm a dog/horse/cat person. I don't know if anyone could get on with this woman.

What I found surprising, was that her loan app said she was a dentist that owned the practice. When I called the office and asked for Dr. Doe, they laughed, turns out she is an office assistant that left early. (I thought the salary on the loan app was too low to be a dentist, way to high to be an office asst.) One of her office friends must have been the one called for the VOE.

Lisa - that woman sounds like she needs an Rx

adjustment. Seriously.

I think you lucked out.

Doesn't smell quite right. Sounds like there may be just plain fraud on the app... and a good chance the hubby doesn't want to sign.

We don't know enough to know why... but that deals gonna blow up. And when it does they'll need a goat.

Paper's cheap... your guardian angel canceled that signing.
