Transcontinental Title
Transcontinental Title just stiffed me. They sent me a check but it was shorted by $25.00. They just never learn. I guess I'll have to give them my collection treatment which never fails. They just have to learn the hard way. I just thought you all might be interested.

They have made errors from time to time, just like anyone does...but, I have always been paid what my confirmation says. You merely need to contact the team and alert them of the discrepancy. If it was a rescind...that is another story. Mistakes happen. Allow them to correct it before blasting them

I'll take anything I get from Trans. One time I had a small problem on one that didn't close, but all it took was a phone call. They are one of the good ones. Chill a little and they will come through.

They will deduct $25.00 if the notary failed to use REUSABLE FEDEX ENVELOPE. If you used poly pak or study pak, it is is automatic $25.00 deduction.
They are very strict about that because it cost them more in shipping cost. Their instructions to the notary are very clear - so you may want to remember how you returned the docs. Call them, they log it in how docs were returned to them. On the other hand, if you did not have a reusable envelope, all you would have to do is call them, they will make a note on that file and chargeback notary.

FWIW: Recently did one thru an SS who did NOT provide instructions about the cardboard reusable envelope. Wondered at the time--who would be penalized for that error? I did use the cardboard env.... but????

"Transcontinental Title just stiffed me. They sent me a check but it was shorted by $25.00"
TCT is a good company to work for, but they have one quirk - they'll short you $25 if you send the docs back in the wrong type of packaging. They've always been very clear about it in their confirmations. Did you ignore that?
"I guess I'll have to give them my collection treatment which never fails. They just have to learn the hard way."
For $25, due to something you may have failed to do? I can't imagine how it could be worth the effort, but let us know how that works out for you...

I thought that if Transcontinental Title calls me again, I was going to refuse them. Instead I decided that I will just charge them more than I normally would. Two can play at their game. I don't like the way they do business. They want fax-backs and they're picky about what you send the docs back in, just so they can deduct $$. The docs wouldn't fit in an envelope so I had to use a 'pak'. And the threats, "If you don't do this or don't do that, we will deduct $$ from you." Bull-crap. I will collect my $25.00 one way or another.

It boggles my mind
how anyone can disregard the very plain instructions and then beef when the TC does what it told you it would do if you didn't follow the instructions.
So you are going to jepordise a relationship with one of the few remaing good and fast paying title companies because you didn't follow directions? And you wonder why TC's outsource to SS? It is so they don't have to deal with these petty problems. They'll give it to a SS and let them handle the problems (of course, they have to make their cut so we all get less). Wise up and start treating this like a profession and not like a hobby.

Did you know if it wouldn't fit in an ordinary envelope that
you call them and they authorize a tyvek pack? Why don't you and Ronda get in a contest to see who can go out of business quicker?

I've never ever had a pkg from TCT that didn't fit into the
envelope. Yes, its a little tight, but it fits just fine. I make sure I use some packing tape on the outside. They are not trying to trick you. This has been a rule of theirs for a very very long time and they aren't going to change it because of you. You read the instructions, you ignored them and they deducted. Lesson learned. Move on. They are in business also, and if this is one way they can save a few bucks , I applaud them. Its hard to read such statments like this when its about one of the best companies to work for out there. There is a saying, don't bite the hand that feeds you. You will regret even posting this as other companies read these boards.

The "two can play that game--I don't like the way they do business" is a poor attitude. This is business. If you accept an assignment, you accept it with their instructions. Some companies find it necessary to deduct for notaries that choose to do "whatever". Do you really think you're due your fee--no matter what? Some notaries think that way & they aren't around very long. It has been said many, many times--we are paid to follow instructions, not to think.

Charge them more than they're willing to pay.. Yeah, that will work if they ever get desperate enough...
Here's a radical idea - why not just try complying with their requirements? They TOLD you that they would subtract $25 if you didn't follow the instructions; you didn't follow the instructions, and they subtracted $25. Where's the problem here?

There is notice in the instructions if you use a plastic envelope vs reusable they will deduct. What kind did you use, and I'm with everyone else, never had a problem with them and they are easy to work with.

I like Trans. Title. When I accept the assignment I know the check will be in my mailbox in 2 weeks or less. I never had a problem putting the docs in a reuseable. The instructions are as clear as day NO resuseable envelope deduct $25. Part of your job is accomodating the title company at a reasonable level. This is reasonable to me. I'm sure someone in your area will be willing to take the work you'll decline from Trans.

Who stiffed who
DD/OR. It appears that you stiffed TCT by failing to send the package back by their required standard of tranport. If the instructions were not clear then that is one thing. But to decide to send it otherwise for whatever reason is no excuse. It IS their way or the highway with deductions. One of the best characteristics of someone in this job is attention to details with the ability to follow instructions.
