It's difficult to troubleshoot when the hardware is at a distance, but try a couple of things.
First, clean boot your system. Turn off both your printer and computer (not just restart or hibernate). Turn your printer on first, then your computer. See if that fixes it. When people I know have issues with their computers connecting to their hardware or recognize their hardware, be they pc or Mac, a full restart usually fixes it. A lot of people have a habit of hibernating or sleeping their machines. That's fine, but a cold restart should be done a couple of times per week to clean out the memory and load drivers that might have been turned off for one reason or another. Sometimes spyware can knock things off line. You may need to go back into printer properties and prefrences and reset them. But do the restart first.

Uninstall - reinstall
A lot of times, an installation of something else, after setting up a device, will cause it to stop working. ('Newer' application may install different DLL's or other necessary software.)
Completely uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it may solve the problem. Had to do that for one of my HP printers using Vista.
