CA Commission renewal

I'm in the process of getting my paper work for my commission renewal. I have my proof of completion (through N.R. of course) as a renewing notary do we still have to take that test through CPS? I'm all tested out :-)

Re: Yes - Thanks just got my answer,

of course the CPS site won't let me in, so I have to wait until Monday. Oh well what's one more test after my IRS test on 9-30? This one should be a breeze. :-)

Re: Yes - Thanks just got my answer,

If, when you go online, you can't get registered for the class you want, consider showing up anyway to walk in as a standby. I gave it a shot because I was worried about the back-log, and I was able to get in. Worth a try.

(I have a great new client in an attorney I've known for years who is also a notary. He didn't know about the 4-6 month backlog, so I've been filling in while he waits for his commission to come through. Smile 'Course he has his other business to fall back on. Notarizing was just something he did as a courtesy to his clients.)

You will not be able to schedule your exam online at CPS, if the test date is less than 2 weeks away. If that is the case, then you will not be able to take that test, unless you show up (early) as stand-by.
That is what happened to me, for this month. ... I went to sign up 13 days before the test, and I was too late (not 14 or more days) and I couldn't. I called CPS and they said I could try as standby, and to get there early. They did accomodate about 7-10 of us as standby testers, here at my test site (Santa Clara University). Good Luck, the test was pretty basic, 30 questions.

No one has been turned away from a Calif. CPS Test in over 10 years because of too many new or renewing notaries in the testing room.

I asked a Proctor last week if anything had changed?

He laughed and said "no because so few people are taking the CA State Notary Exam."

I suggest you take your "CA Proof Of Completion" and just show up and you can take the test anywhere, anytime the CPS is conducting the test.
