Countrywide sent me lovely letter today (NOT)
"We are writing to inform you that we recently became aware that a CW employee (now former) may have sold unauthorized person information about you to a third party." It goes on to say all of my personal information, including loan application, was compromised. BUT "We deeply regret..." and "We will monitory your mortgage account" and "CW has arranged for complimentary credit monitoring services provided by a CW vendor at no cost to you over the next 2 years."
Like I want to trust them! Or their vendor? How wonderful to not have my own options... I am so aggravated!

This website is a real eye-opener! Thank you Mia.
I couldn't believe how many files are discarded in the trash, dumpsters, found blowing in the wind even.
This is what is said about mine: Aug. 2, 2008 Countrywide Financial Corp. (Calabasas, CA) The FBI on Friday arrested a former Countrywide Financial Corp. employee and another man in an alleged scheme to steal and sell sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers. The breach occurred over a two-year period though July. The insider was a senior financial analyst at Full Spectrum Lending, Countrywide's subprime lending division. Some, perhaps most, and possibly all the names were being sold to people in the mortgage industry to make new pitches. 2,000,000 (names, identities compromised.)
in () my notation.
Background checks? who knows.
