Deadbeat FL companies
Sent a letter & email to Gov. Crist (can't remember who posted info, but thanks!), & here is the response I received:
Thank you for contacting Governor Charlie Crist. The Governor appreciates your concerns regarding mortgage fraud and asked me to respond on his behalf. To assist you, I forwarded a copy of your correspondence to Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) for their review. If you wish to contact OFR directly, please use the contact information provided below. Office of Financial Regulation 200 East Gaines Street Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0375 (800) 848-3792
I have several more sent (& in the works) for CA, TX & a few other states, listing the culprits. Start @ the top & let it trickle down (to the right people/dept). As someone posted earlier (Stephanie?), fraud is when you set OUT with no intention of paying - parphrased natch!
The more complaints, the more likely a pattern will be established & ACTION taken! (& others dissuaded from stiffing us!)
Good luck to one & all!

Thanks for posting this. I wish everyone who is owed (fraudulently) by a FL SS would participate in helping us rid Florida of the albatrosses.

I agree. But I wonder if they will see it as mortgage fraud. But something definitely needs to be done about signing services that don't pay their notaries and who close their doors one day and then open up the next day with a different name.
Possibly with the industry as it is right now a lot of those services will close their doors.

First - I love that you did this and that the response sounds so encouraging. I hope that this WILL be of value and that someone will pick up the ball and run it for that super touchdown.
Thanks for writing, and for posting all this info. I makes me wish I had a problem right now to complain about and join your ranks. I definately have noted this info just in case, although hoping I never have to use it.

Update: Today, I actually received a call from Bill Morin of the Office of Financial Regulation!!!! I reiterated the info in my letter AND.... He is trying to find a fit w/ the RIGHT dept to make sure that the proper people handle this & will call me BACK in the next few days!
I only emailed the Gov. on 9/16!!!!!! (I printed the email in letter form & mailed a hard copy the same day - they're probably JUST getting the hardcopy)
This is ENCOURAGING to say the least - I'm on a mission now - because sometimes it is discouraging after you do all that hard work (& sometimes get shot down & sniped @ by your peers in this VERY forum!)
But, no matter the outcome - FL takes this stuff seriously & I'm sure with the current financial climate, other states will also (think ENRON & Martha Stewart - any other time, she would've been slapped on her wrists & sent to a time-out).
Well, the big dogs are Enron & the SS's are going to be Martha!
At the very least, those SS's that still have the nerve to read this board will know that we're not going to take this lying down & neither will the authorities! I still intend on filing w/ the BB's & small claims, but if these SS's think there's a possibilty they might actually go to JAIL...
This is also probably a big enough infraction to have their notary commissions revoked & put them out of business once & for all!
Now, Mario & all those other CA slimeballs... "you're about to get ERASED" - Governator - here I come!!!!
PS - thanks for the support jba & everyone else! I'll keep you all posted!

Racketeering is the act of operating an illegal business or scheme in order to make a profit, perpetrated by a structured group (the SS's?). It is a broad category of criminal acts that includes bribery, sexual exploitation of children, and illegal gambling, among many others. Racketeering is closely associated with organized crime, since both are conducted by groups.
Racketeering encompasses many criminal acts. It includes theft and fraud against businesses or individuals (notaries?).
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
To expand on my earlier post re mtge fraud - this is VERY heartening because, once someone is prosecuted for fraud, besides possible JAIL/PRISON time, restitution is part of the penalty if convicted. It is sooooo time-consuming AND expensive to hunt these scumbags down, send reg letters back & forth, sue (out-of-pocket expenses for the court costs & the reg mail + serving a summons out-of-state), then still try to collect on any judgements. That's what these criminals are banking on!!
