Let the hate mail commence!
It's bad enough that we have to deal with competition that finds low fees acceptable, but this is just ridiculous!

Re: David...no more than $10/ack or jurat...$20 for weddings
I guess then that any "donations" likely won't cause a blip in the Gross National Product. Still it's really sad that someone would think this is a good Business Plan.
I can see it now: "Make **BIG** money from Notary donations! Classes are forming now!"

Lind, it's $30 to officiate a wedding even though the
manual says $20.

Re: David...no more than $10/ack or jurat...$20 for weddings
Linda The fee for performing weddings was increased to $30 a few years ago (when the fee for performing weddings by a clerk of the court was increased to $30)
I know the reference manual says up to $20. But that was published in 1997. You have to go by the statutes.
117.045 Marriages.--A notary public is authorized to solemnize the rites of matrimony. For solemnizing the rites of matrimony, the fee of a notary public may not exceed those provided by law to the clerks of the circuit court for like services.

Giving away free services - or just an advertising gimmick to create attention... Either way, hope it's nothing illegal to give away or solicit <ewg>

Hate mail is right. What is this person thinking? I would think that if you wanted to "donate" your services, it would be through a senior citizens organization or something. I'm also wondering if this person thinks this is a tax exempt situation. They need to report all income, "donations" or not. It must be some desperate advertising ploy. I wouldn't worry about it too much--if they can't place a value on their services they probably won't last.

I would actually believe that this is a ploy to get more money from the person she is notarizing the doc for. Being that most of the general population has no clue as to what a notary is supposed to receive. I believe it would be her actions to get it notarized and then hope the person gives her more money than allowed and try and get away with it. Anyone in the area that can give it a try and get a receipt for the "more than allowable fee" and report her to the state?

Don't bombard her with hate email, ...
... bombard her with questions and especially ask what her Web Site is. Email would be best, IHMO. I've just sent a message.
Thanks, Becca_FL, for pointing out this ... umm ... can't think of a word other than an unkind one, so I'll just say "clueless person".

It's gay guys like this that make me completely understand why there is still so much homophobia in the world. Everything has to have a sexual undertone to it, they're incapable of leading a life that isn't dictated by their penises.

This brings to mind two famous quotes: 1) "You get what you pay for"; and 2) "Nothing in life is free.
If I were searching for a notary or NSA, I would never respond to her ad. It immediately raises a "red flag". My guess is that she may receive many responses to her advertisement, but it certainly isn't going to be from clients that most of us would want to do business with.
