Some companies are sending the modifications to the borrowers to find their own notaries. I get quite a few coming to me. As I am only acting as the notary, and only 1 document to notarize I can only charge the notary fee for Florida. But as the borrower comes to me, they are in and out in a few minutes - I don't have to go over any paperwork with them, just notarizing their signature on one document - then the notary fee is acceptable.

I actually get a lot of these. I have never had to print any docs; they are always sent to the borrower. There is only one document. There is nothing to explain. The borrower is usually within 10 miles of me. How much could you possibly want for the amount of work it requires?

Because we in the mobile notary business do not believe in a market-driven economy and wish to be paid what we were back in the day when there was too much business and not enough agents. After all, we did go to six years of post-grad education to perform this service.
While we're at it, would anyone care to please buy my Lehman Brothers common stock? I paid $85.00 a share for it 2 years ago, so that's my price.
Please don't all rush at once.

We are not talking about a market-driven economy. We are talking about the fact that you do not have to print/explain any docs. If the docs were sent to the borrower and they were told to find a notary themselves, it would be $2(I think) for you in NY. You go to the bo's house. The one document is there. You notarize the one document. There is nothing else for the borrower to sign and nothing else for you to do. I am pretty sure that the $30 she was offered is more than her state allows for a simple notarization.

in CA we can charge reasonable travel fees, if we are asked to travel to their location, so when I am called directly to do any type of general notarization or loan package (that doesnt include courier or review/overview of docs) , I charge my state allowed $10 per signature, plus what we agree upon as a travel fee. The payout is quite acceptable given the time required to do this type of work.

It's true that we're in-and-out in 10 minutes. The agent typically drops the file at FedEx, too.
Re. "market-driven," I beg to differ. We used to -- at least I did -- get paid $50.00 for such jobs. No more. I wouldn't drive more than 5 miles to do a job for $30.00 unless I had to be in or near the area at the time anyway.

First off I am in FL not NY, don't know why that keeps popping up. Anyway the job was 19 miles away. Would you all still have done it and yes I did have to print them. There were 9 pages.

No, I would not have done that for $30. Too far away.
I have done mods 5-10 miles away for $35-$45. 20 miles away for $30? No way. I don't care that it's only 9 pages. Did you ask the dirt bag what there cut was?
