My Nephew Update
Well, its been a busy week. My nephew Stephen was transfered to Brooks Rehabilitation on Tuesday at 5pm. He started Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapy on Wednesday. He does each twice a day, even on Saturday. They have church services and he went today and talked during the whole service. They said it was OK, no problem.
My sister took him out to the courtyard where they have a coy pond. She said" Stephen we are going to see the fish" He said " I do not want to see the fish" Later he seemed agitated and she asked him if he was hurting and he said he was in a lot of pain" This is fantastic.
He also repeated after me when I said, Stephen Do you know who I am, I am Aunt Margaret. He said Yes and said Aunt Margaret and then he said he wanted to go home with me.
It is truly amazing and he surprizes us with everything he says.
He has been squinting quite a bit with one eye, and after inquiring about this with his doctor, she indicated that it was normal as this is a sign he most likely has double vision at this point, and is just trying to focus. We were glad to hear this because it shows he is trying to look at his surroundings.
He continues to add words to his vocabulary each day. He surprises us with his sometimes random comments like, "that's not going to happen" and "you guys are too much." This has brought us to tears from laughter because it is so applicable at the time, and seems to come out of nowhere.
This has truly been a miracle and each day he does something he did not do the day before.
Thank everyone so much and please continue to keep Stephen in your thoughts and prayers

Margaret, these are truly remarkable improvements. Stephen is blessed to be here as all of you are. Stephen will be constant in our prayers. He has quite a journey ahead of him. He'll do great. I gave a book away that I picked up four years ago, called "What Happened to Yesterday", written by a woman in Laguna Beach whose adult son was beat up in South American where he was doing his thesis. She ended up sitting on the BTI National Board. It was a hate crime, and she flew down to bring him back home. Seven years later, he returned to South American to complete his thesis, and I do believe he is still in South America. It's a true recount of just how he recovered, came to live on his own and finally make the decision to return to finish his work abroad. I'll send you the information in PM. Enjoy the journey!
