My son needs to have a school trip noterized

I'm in NJ and my son needs to have a school trip permission sheet notarize and he needs it by tomorrow morning. You know how kids don't say anything until the last minute. I know that if their is any monetary value or I stand to gain something that I'm not allowed to notarize, but in this case do you think its OK or is this 100% against the law? Thanks for your advice.

If you are the person signing it, I am guessing in NJ it is 100% against the law. It would be in Texas.

call all your neighbors

When this happened to me I was talking to a neighbor who I found out happened to be a notary. I have since found out that 3 of my neighbors are notaries for their jobs but don't do signing work. (thank heavens!!)

You cant sign it.. Big No No in NJ

Did you wait till last minute? does not seem like you would only have 24 hours to do this or less.

If it was me, I would go to the local bank most will do it for free.

Re: If you have a Kinko's anywhere near

Sorry, check out Kinko's, if you have one in your area. They usually are open 24/7 and might have a notary on duty most of the time. Also, sometimes a secretary at the school is a notary public.

Option #1. Have his mother sign it and you notarize.
Option #2. Depdnding on his/her age and general degree of responsibility/irresponsibility, tell him/her too bad, no field trip.

I'm that close to bagging it, simply because at 16, you should know better than to wait until the last minute. As I told him. It would a better lesson learned. bet G aren't they just the cutest things.

16 years old? I didn't realize your child was that old. If that were my child (thank goodness mine are grown and I don't have to deal with that any longer and I dealt with plenty of those type situations) there is no question that he'd be sitting in the office or wherever they put the ones that aren't eligible for extra activities. Only my son was like that not the girls. Hummmmm.

your 'time' is almost up. Truly it will get better and some day you'll be proud of him. Until then ...

Re: forgot to say

Oh, I'm very proud of him. A straight "A" student and a stand out Lacrosse player that will probably same me thousands in tuition. I think it's just the age of young boy/man. Girls are differently on the money for things like this, do you think they would miss a social gig?

option #3

Look up your zip code and find the closest few notaries. Call and see if you can go to one them. Have them charge you whatever their normal fee would be. Again, depending on age and in my eyes it would be anyone 3rd grade or higher, make your child repay you the notary fee, along with a fee for your time and inconvenience.

I network with several local notaries

We take care of each other's notarization needs pro bono all the time.
It's good to have (and make new) friends in the industry.

Are there any banks nearby? They all have notaries on staff.

In our high school there was always a notary in the high school office and someone to register the 18 yrs olds to vote. You might try that in the AM

dang pinky finger...

The solution is pretty simple... "Son, you gotta get this notarized and I can't do it. There's a website that lists notaries, some of them are 24 hours. I sure hope you don't miss out on your trip. If you need my help, just ask."

I've no son... but an 18 year-old nephew that was living with us for a while. My brother and I were of the same mind, but grandpa wanted to spoon feed him. I don't remember grandpa being that way when he was dad.

Good luck.
