OT - My husband and my job

Well we found out yesterday that he is starting dialysis in fact today - he has to have a catheter put in his neck temporarily this afternoon and then will have something more permanent mid October - I was told by my bosses wife today who came in almost screaming at me this morning that they are probably going to have to look for another FT secretary as they just can't have me taking time off to doctor's appts. and dialysis - he can't drive himself to dialysis because one his eye sight (dark when he leaves) and no idea how he will do or feel afterwards. She was all pissed off at me because I have had diarrhea for 3 days and called out sick yesterday - she actually drove by my house and noticed my car wasn't there and asked me what I did yesterday beings I wasn't home - I told her I was home sleeping and that my husband took my car to his doctor's appt. yesterday because it had more gas in it - actually I did call out sick and went to the doctor with him - I knew if I asked to come in late I would catch flack about it - I caught flack from my boss just for calling out sick. It ended up we were at the hospital all day just about.

Does anyone know where to point me to to find out about the family leave act - My sister told me that if he fires me for this reason that I can collect unemployment - anyone from PA know about that? I'm so stressed right now and don't have time to make any phone calls today - I'm at work until noon and have to have him to the hospital by 1:00.

Try this link, Mary

And though I feel for you and you're all in my prayers, you really need to keep this in the leisure forum...

Re: After all you have said, I'm

She even mentioned to me that no other employer would probably put up with this and she is right as far as me looking for a new job - If I tell a potential new employer about what is going on - there is no chance in you know what that he will hire me.

I don't know how you have hung in there this long. Clearly this is an abusive situation. She's mentally abusive.

I'm sorry for your situation! It's sound very difficult.

What about a temp agency until things settle down for you?

Obviously I mean "ludicrous".

They take the cake...just had to exclaim something about them (again).

While I sympathize with your plight and don't mean to sound insensitive, your employer has a business to run and your problems should not become theirs. I agree with Linda, your post should be in the leisure forum.

On the family leave act. Make sure it doesn't exclude you if the business you work for has a small number of employees.
My daughter used 3 months of family leave act time from March of 2007 to june 2007. In Jan of 2008 she fell gravely ill and did not qualify for the full 3 months again because a year had not lapsed. They fired her after about a month (using her built up sick leave, vacation for that month). Fortuneately she had bought both short and long term disability which saw her thru. She started another job in June and still gets a partial disability check. She had to go to 3rd shift at a convienience /truck stop so she could pace herself and sit when shee needs to as her right side is still weaker then her left, but she is managing. And living with me.

In California we have.....

the Dept of Fair Housing and Employment that handles these type of complaints. Check to see if you have something similar in PA. They are the first place that you have to go to if you have a case prior to initiating any kind of suit.. Sorry to say that if you work for a company of less than 75 people you are probably out of luck. But check any way there may be some kind of state statute that could apply. Good luck.

You should have a good chance of qualifying for this program. You realize, of course, that you will not be entitled to pay while you are off.
Just make sure you get moving on this ASAP. Time is of the essence here and it sounds to me like your employer is going to find ANY excuse possible at this point to get rid of you.
Rememebr "Never let 'em see you sweat."
Good luck.
