Revisiting the WVA PA Controversy

Got a call last night at 7:20pm from a WELL KNOWN SS, and was ask to do a closing in West Virginia. First of all, I'm a Notary in PA. Second, this co called and wanted this closing done at 8:00pm. The town they wanted me to travel to was 2 hours from me.
I was just floored. I responded that (such and such town) was in WVA and I was a Notary in PA, so I couldn't notarize in WVA. We hung up.
Less than 2 minutes later, my phone starts ringing again. I should never have answered it, but was standing right there.
It's the same SS calling me back to let me know that since I'm so uncooperative, they are removing my name from their list of Notaries.
I told them that was "fine with me." I know I took this nutcase by surprise. I think the idea in calling back was that this "threat" would straighten me up and change my mind. Didn't happen.
As I said, this is a VERY WELL KNOWN SS. They should have known better. At the least, when I said I was a Notary in PA, and couldn't notarize in WVA, a lightbulb should have gone off in this girl's head, and she should have seen the errors of her ways, and NOT called me back and threatened me with banishment to the old bonepile.
This co used to pay well, but has become a major lowballer over the last year, so it really doesn't matter to me. All their deals now are these 60-70 page faxback jobs for $85. Yawn...

Re: Revisiting the WVA PA Controversy/Unbelievable

I am floored after reading this...YOU are uncooperative for not breaking the law...not to mention you can't print docs and travel to a place 2 hrs. away in 40 min!

Re: Revisiting the WVA PA Controversy/Unbelievable

Why not report them to the WVa and or Pa notary commission? Why let these idiots get away with this.

Who is the company?

You might as well tell us if you're not going to be accepting assignments from them anymore.

Let the rest of us know who is trying to bully notaries into breaking the law for their low-ball fees.

Re: Who is the company?

Although this thread may have been started by her latest 'offer', it's not one company, it's a lot of them when you are within driving distance of another state.

As for the "breaking the law for their low ball fees" that's just ... whatever, not sure what to say. Some of the highest paying companies ask us to break the law or to "make the loan work ... everyone else does it ... just this one time ... etc. I'd say more of my clients than not have asked me to backdate, accept inappropriate id, etc. They key is to refuse to do anything illegal or that you are uncomfortable with and also to have them continue to call you.

Re: Who is the company?

I have also been asked to "bend the rules" for some companies, but have turned down those requests and continue to get calls from them. Most of them understand what they are asking is against the law and don't hold it against me when I turn them down. When this type of request becomes the norm instead of the exception, I evaluate whether I want to continue doing busness with that particular company.

When a company is offering a low-ball fee AND asking me to break the law there is little chance that I would work for them based on the fee alone.

I am not willing to risk my commission for any fee, high or low.
