Small Claims Court?
Has anyone tried to collect from services that haven't paid? I'm in CA and have no idea what's involved in taking someone to small claims court. Plus, do you have to have their address and contact info? The people I'm looking at, of course, have cancelled their phone numbers and emails...thanks!

Also Report them to the IRS even tell them you are going to do this most will pay you How Do You Report Suspected Tax Fraud Activity?
Report them to the IRS If you suspect or know of an individual or company that is not complying with the tax laws, you may report this activity by completing Form 3949-A. You may fill out Form 3949-A online, print it and mail it to:
Internal Revenue Service Fresno, CA 93888
If you do not wish to use Form 3949-A, you may send a letter to the address above. Please include the following information, if available:
Name and address of the person you are reporting The taxpayer identification number (social security number for an individual or employer identification number for a business) A brief description of the alleged violation, including how you became aware of or obtained the information The years involved The estimated dollar amount of any unreported income Your name, address and daytime telephone number Although you are not required to identify yourself, it is helpful to do so. Your identity can be kept confidential.

I've done it several times in my "regular" job. It's not difficult at all, but since you don't have their contact information it might be difficult.
Here's the best place to start: http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/smallclaims/
How you go about it depends on what county you're in, and what county the transaction took place. It's important to get that right, or the judge will toss your case. I know this from experience!
If you need to find the person/company, and if it's worth it to you, you might consider hiring a PI to get their information. You have to be able to have them served in order to win your case.
I've won every case I've filed for my company. Mostly, we've won simply be default because they never show up.
I will also tell you, though, that even if you win...you have to collect on your own. The court won't do it for you. That can be especially frustrating. We've only collected on one of our judgments so far. The rest have ended up with us filing liens on real property.
How much do they owe you? Sometimes, it may not even be worth the effort and is best to turn it over to a collection agency and hope for the best.

Dig around a little...
Look up the owner of their website, if it was edocs, check back through the docs, be nice to the TC and just ask them for contact info,
There's more than one way to skin a cat.
PS Don't work for people you can't find in real life.

Re: Dig around a little...
Thanks for all your good advice. The total from the 2 people is only $275, so it's probably not worth the effort---how sad is that??? FYI: Don't work for SSI, Inc. (Donald Hatfield) OR Robert Stackpole And if anyone has contact info---I'd be glad to take it!

Re: Dig around a little...
if you're looking to sue across the country, it's as you say ... probably not worth your effort. Donald Hatfield reads this board. To collect from him, contact the owner of the title company ... I e-mailed the lawyer who owns the title company and I was contacted by good old Donald within minutes ... he still tried to play his games regarding payment but he did pay me within my prescribed threat time ... I believe it was 3 days. Don't know what the lawyer told him but it worked.
