Typical Notary Fees in NJ?

Hi, I just recently became a notary and am looking to put myself out there as a signing agent.

I am curious what to put for typical notary charges here in NJ.

If anyone could give me an idea of typical ranges for charges, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Not a good business to be getting into right now.
Lots of signing agents having to look into other lines of work.

Typical notary fees are what your state allows.
Signing agent fees are what you decide will allow you to make a profit, taking into consideration your outlay.

do a search, Michael

The signing agent field is not the most profitable at this time in the economy.
People are not refinancing like they were a few years ago. The companies that handle refiances are using notary agents with years of experience over new-to-the-field notaries. What made you decide to get into the business NOW? I ask, because there are a glut of notaries nationwide who can't keep a roof over their heads with the industry on the down-slide. Check down a few posts...I mentioned in one, that it was a good gig while it lasted...Past-tense. Most of us are actively seeking jobs and other avenues of revenue.
If you have your mind made up, start by reading message #33325 to see what to expect and what is expected of you.

For now I would suggest you forget the Notary Signing business until the mortgage market reverses. You will lots of good information if you just hit the search button and put in newbee.

Your fees are what you can charge by state law for general notary work; as for loan signings, your fees are what you can charge (and get companies to agree to) and make a profit, taking into account all your expenses (car wear and tear, gas, laser printer toner, paper, time spent on the file, cell phone, internet, etc., etc.)...

Search here for information threads (like 33325 as mentioned) but also click the "Find a Notary" tab and search your zip code - it will give you an idea of the amount of competition you're facing in your area - and that's just what's listed here on NotRot - there are hundreds of thousands listed on other websites....

Oh..and by the way....complete your profile - you need to let companies know why they should hire YOU over anyone else...what you bring to the table for them....

Good Luck to you!!

Not a good time to become a SA, I did this full time since 2000 and this year I can't maintain it @ FT anymore.

Since your a newbie, sign up with as many companies as you can. I would start with Service Link and get a few under your belt (call it learning curve) You wont make any money with them but you will learn about doing closings.

Just remember once you set a low price, going up is impossible and TC have lowered there price too.

A good Notary in NJ can get anything from 100-175 per closing (refi) HELOCS range from 70-90 (small package)

Re: Notary Fees, etc.

I am really looking to do maybe 1-3 closings a week if possible, and I do understand it is a tough time in the market.

I am just not sure if I call title co's directly, or if there is a place where title co.'s go to find signing agents in a particular area, etc.

thanks for the suggestion of updating my profile, btw.
