Blackberry Curve
I just ordered a Blackberry Curve off eBay as my phone has been dropping calls and my service contract is not up to get one cheap. I don't want to pay $400 for a phone from AT&T without a contract...my last phone is not insured because I also bought it on eBay.
My husband has an iPhone and loves it. I can’t get one because you can’t get insurance on them and I have BAD luck with cell phones! In the last eight months my dog ate two, I lost one, dropped one in a cup of coffee and this last one is dropping calls! All those phones were Motorola Q9’s, and I thought I would try a Blackberry as my daughter really likes hers.
Can you view attachments with a Curve?

Lynn,
My son found this info for you at http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/BlackBerry-Curve-review/messaging.htm
It is a big review so I pulled this out to make it easier. It is about half way down the page. Hope this helps, Tonya
"HTML and Attachments (0.0) Like its predecessors, the Curve can't handle HTML. If you receive an e-mail with HTML, it will just spew out the code text.
You can open attachments on the Curve by clicking on them, on the "[# Attachments]" text at the top ("#" being the number of attachments), or through the menu button. We were able to view Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Zip files, and PDF files, but we couldn't edit them. "

No problem, my son is so knowledgeable about anything
technical. I tell him all the time I don't know what I will do when he leaves for his Soph year at the University this fall. LOL

Yes, you can view PDFs on a Curve!
I have a Curve and it's my lifeline!! It will open most image and PDF attachments. The PDF attachment will open as low resolution at first, but when you zoom in, it will download a higher resolution copy.
I've had my Curve for a year now and I don't know how I ever got along with just a cell phone before. Never going back.

Oh, it is true about HTML email... but there are 3rd party programs you can install that will let you read "pretty" email if you need to. I don't myself... what matters are the attachments, and Blackberry handles those just fine.

Wow I've had the same phone for 3 years.
Of course I use mine for talking, which probably qualifies me as a Luddite.

I'm w/you Philip - talking is what I want to do with my phone, that's it. Another Luddite in your midst.

Re: Wow I've had the same phone for 3 years.
I used to be that way, too... but I've been converted.
This thing lets me do just about everything, especially with a bunch of free 3rd party applications ... it is a cell phone, calendar, address book, internet browser, GPS/Google Maps, radio, still and video camera.. I can update facebook (ugh... for family only!) and twitter, text message, instant message, calculator, alarm clock, notepad, cookbook/recipe box, password keeper, voice recorder... and it's also a wireless modem for my laptop when I need a wifi connection, so I have Internet basically anywhere I have a phone signal.
I'm sure it can do more that I haven't discovered yet. It's not for everyone, though... but I sure love it!

Re: Wow I've had the same phone for 3 years.
I'm with you. I recently switched from my very reliable phone to the new Blackberry Storm (touchscreen). It's great for getting my email, etc., but is not good as a phone. It seems these new devices do about everything-- text, email, web, tv, etc., but aren't very good for basic phone usage, which is what I need it for most. I've heard that the Curve is good, but I can't handle those small keys. I can't imagine being in my car, at night, trying to see the keyboard. Just my .02

Blackberry Curve keyboard lights up on most models!
I have the BB curve 8330 and the keyboard and trackball light-up when you touch any key, not hard to see at night at all. Typing is not to bad, fairly wider keyboard than most.

I bought the Blacberry Curve 8310. In what way is the 8330 different? After you wrote your post, I checked eBay for a 8330 and there was only one...is it such a new model that people aren't selling them yet?

go to getempower.com its a 3rd party app that allows you to view the HTML for the blackberry. I had the pearl for 2 years tried the iphone and the toys were great on it. Blackberry is a much better option for people like us on the go. I now have the 8820. oh and the getempower.com is $29.95 (one time fee) and I believe and they have a trial period.

Lynn, I know you're calling call me a WiseA** but I can't help myself. Instead of buying another cell phone, trying installing a 2nd land line phone in the house with a very, very long cord. Might be cheaper in the long run : )

Got my BB Curve earlier this year. Used to carry a
regualar cell phone + a Mogul, to access internet, etc. Got sick of paying for an dragging around two phones , so I got rid of the cell and got an upgraded Mogul. . Mogul keept crashing and never knew it wasn't letting me know about calls, and then leaned that "you have six new messages." Missed a couple of jobs. Went into Sprint to yell , and they exchanged it for a BB Curve. Still trying to figure out what it does, but seems to work well Mine has a built in GPS naviigator that works great. Have a contract with Sprint for less than $100 / month for umlimited everything.

Somehow, this doesn't sound like problems with your PHONES ......... but that is just a personal opinion and perception ......
