Anyone have any recent experience. Found very little in search & nothing in signing central. TIA

I did a re-fi for them last week. The owner, Dave, said to make sure you email an invoice because sometimes notaries forget to do that.

They only thing they really asked, which I didn't find unreasonable at all, was a fax back of the signed HUD. Perhaps a tiny bit of hand holding... but not unreasonable by any means. I did have a question come up, and they responded right away. They certainly followed through with every promise and got the docs to me several hours before the appointment.

The thing that stands out about them from other services is that the TC/Lender seem to work fairly closely with the signing service. Either the lender or Dave himself seems to make sure they go over all the numbers on the forms ahead of time so they know what to expect. They also told the borrower to make sure to ask to see my ID and copy of my commission when I arrived. I did not know that ahead of time, but I had no issues providing it. I figure, after all... I'm in their home holding their documents, it's only fair that I show mines, too. This particular borrower seemed very well aware of what he was doing and really had no questions. He seem very well prepared.

This particular lender required two different forms of ID, though, and wanted photocopies of each.

I can't say anything about payment time, of course.

That wouldn't happen here. Number one I don't have either with me when I walk into someone's home. I certainly don't take my wallet into somone's home and I've never, ever carried my notary commission around with me (they did start to give us a little wallet card several years ago but I don't carry that either). Number two, they have no business looking at my id - their lender has approved me to access their paperwork ... what good would it possibly do them to glance at my license? Yesterday I had my garage door fixed ... this was a several trip process ... I didn't ask these men to give me their licenses ... I called a business, I requested my garage door to be fixed, they sent someone ... it's their call who comes, what good does it do me to know their addresses, last names or birthdays ... I know Ryan was here twice and Joe came with him yesterday ... if I've got a problem, I'll call the office, knowing who these two are is of no use to me.

I use one of those clear envelops that are used to put the carrier air bill in on the outside of the envelope.
I take off the "stickey" protector and attach it to the inside front cover of my Notary fee book. I then have it with me at all times I am doing a Notary act.

I get asked all the time for an ID card or to see my commission. I suppose it might be a regional thing, or people just want to make sure that I really am the person attached to the notary stamp.

I figure that my commission is public information anyway, so if some body asks to see it, no problem. I carry a copy of it with me in my bag.

If I call a repairman to my home, I ask to see their company ID or business card. I don't just let some guy in my house because I called Time Warner and they said somebody would show up between 12 and 4.

Maybe in another area people aren't as cautious... but I don't care if people see my ID. They don't know who I am, and for all they know...I could be a fraudulent notary. Although, I have been thinking about writing to my congressman to ask them to initiate a bill that would require the SoS to issue Notary ID cards upon request from the notary. I'd rather use that than my DL. That's a far more productive idea than the one they're working on now to force us to accept the Matricular cards. What a joke that is.

This mainly applies to general notary work, though...that's where I get asked to see my commission most. For signing work, not as much but I still don't mind.

Re: In three years in this business I've been asked

It really must be a regional thing, then... because I get asked for it all the time... probably 40-50% of my appointments.

Re: DTI Settlement out of MD .... Sue

it must be the "small town" living here, because like you, I have never asked to see a repair persons id - license or otherwise. I dont cary my purse/wallet into the homes I go to, but my wallet commission id card is in my work bag, not that anyone has ever asked to see it.
