New printers??? Suggestions
I need a new printer, my old one crapped out on me. Any suggestions for a decent printer (all in one preferred). I also would like to have one with the dual trays for the different page sizes.
Figures my would go out when the going got tough! lol.
Thanks in advance ! Kim, VA

I'm am anything but an expert, but first you need to
determine how much you want to spend. I have found that the more expensive, faster printers are much cheaper to operate. Toner on a per page basis goes down as the cost and speed goes up. I lease mine from a dealer and have a maintenence service contract that gives me unlimited toner and onsite maintenence for a cost of less than $0.01 per page.

My older brother multifunction is a work horse. (MFC8220). The refill toner is reasonable too. Cartridges run around $70 but they can be refilled.

Just my opinion….your printer is the very heart of your business…nothing like having your printer quit on page 58 of the docs you need to get signed in 45 minutes. I would buy (a laser of course) the best, fastest, most reliable, printer I could afford…and then I’d buy a backup. I have a Cannon, a Brother, and 4 HP’s. The HP’s may not be the least expensive…but I think the most reliable….I would go with HP’s.

If you use the orange search button you will find there has been a lot of discussion on printers.

HP 2055DN rocks. It really cut down on the time needed to print edoc packages for me.

Love my two year old Lexmark 642DTN more than my HP's - more expensive upfront but less expensive to operate and have not had problems on any documents that were not operator error.

Love my Lexmark 642D for print speed also, but it died 7 months after new purchase and it took Lexmark 4 days and twenty phone calls to send a working refurbished one. 1st one sent spit out lovely blank pages. Now I have someone elses wore out, dinked up refurb... Not happy with Lexmark support at all.

I really like my HP Laserjet M2727. It does everything: print, duplex, adf, scan, copy, and fax. It comes with a bypass tray as well as a regular tray. However you can by a tray that will set under the first tray enabling the printer to automatically select legal or letter size. Look for it to go on sale at Staples and it's about $100 cheaper than retail.

I got a Brother MFC 8460N off ebay for $200 shipped and it has been great. It prints, copies, scans, faxes and the programs that come with it are pretty decent..Definitely do get dual trays. I took a couple signings before I got my 2nd tray in and spent forever switching off paper. I literally installed the new tray, forgot to bring the instructions in from my car of course, and pressed maybe 5 or 6 buttons on the Brother machine and I was printing the right sizes right away
