OK. Getting kerfuffled - spam to "GuestBook" on my
website.
I don't go to my site often, haven't paid much attention to it. All of a sudden, I'm getting dozens of msgs in my email that I've got a new entry in site Guest Book - checked it out - they're all a long string of stuff I don't understand.
Anybody have some info on this? Guess I'll have to dump the Guest book...
Whatever it is, I sure hope it's harmless...
Grrr.

Re: Maybe is it the link in the "GuestBook" that is
messed up. I would call the server and ask them. Just a thought, good luck.

It's more than likely a "bot" spamming your guestbook. It happens all the time with guestbooks and contact forms. Depending on the script used for your guestbook, there might be a patch of code that will prevent this from happening, or you might consider a new guestbook... or getting rid of it completely. In these days of social media, guestbooks like that are a bit out-dated and are often the target of these types of attacks. They're also not well developed anymore so finding a patch might be difficult.

I got a bunch of junk like that when I had a contact form on my site. I deleted the form and figured they would just use the phone...

Use 'Captcha' on all forms
Using the 'captcha' mechanism (I use Snaphosts free implementation http://www.snaphost.com/captcha/) on your forms stops bots from entering information. With a captcha security block, a randomly generated code (presented as a graphic image instead of text) must be entered before the 'submit' button is pressed.

Thanks, everybody. Paul, is that the little box that we
type in the squirrely letters/numbers? (Now I see, said the blind woman...)
So, I printed off the technical posts, and will let my guru guy handle it - I'm not confident enough to try a fix.
Thanks again, all.
