Phone call from XYZ for renewal
I got a call today from XYZ about renewal of my cert/bcg. Their pitch was that they'd give me a deal at $99. What a bargain! I told them that I didn't like the concept of having to renew, take another test, and pay them more money. Of course, they told me that if I let my certification lapse, I will drop to the bottom of the list. Oh well!!!! When I was a newbie I bought into it, but not now. I didn't renew my E&O with them either.

Good for you for moving on! What amazes me is how would you (or any other NSA) know you're not at the bottom of the list now? I recently checked again, out of curiosity, and it still appears that the only way a person can see what the hiring entity can see when they go looking for a notary is by registering as a hiring company with them. Is that different for NSA members? Or can you still only see your own profile page?
When I was a member (several years ago), I remember what a mess the database was when looking up companies to market to. There were tons of dummied up companies, probably mostly other NSAs who wanted to get a peek. I decided way back then that if the notary data base is as much of a mess as the client data base, that isn't somewhere I want to put my money! (To say nothing of all the reasons you mentioned, MW/VA!)

Placement on list ...
For my rural area, I receive the same number of calls now that my brains fell out and I only have non-XYZ background checks and certifications.
The few incoming calls I get from that list are because: 1. De-certified NSAs are assumed to be cheaper ($45-65 fees, including edocs), and 2. I am within X miles of the borrowers' requested signing location.
