Question about CCleaner

I just reinstalled CC my question is when checking off what you want to clean from the system. under Cookies they have "History" is that the same as Cache?? What History does it remove. I need to be sure exactly what History it removes. Does it just remove sites that you have searched or what???

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a great daySmile

Hi Teddog,

From my experience it does remove your search history and the sites that you've visited.

Question about CCleaner - Great Program!

CCleaner is a great program. My sister's computer Guru recommends it (and believe me he knows!). If you click on an area to Clean (such as cookies) you have to assume that it will clean everything - which is a good thing. So if you have a site that "remembers" your password or the colors you choose or whatever, it will clean those out. The only thing that bothers me is that it temporarily cleans out all the sites that I conveniently go to with one letter - pressing "e" doesn't automatically bring up eBay until I go there again one time. So after running it you have to go to your regular sites by putting in the full site address the first time. After that you are back to normal.

I REALLY like that it cleans up the system Registry in the current versions instead of having to use another program.

I'm sure someone else here can give you a more detailed technical answer but I like it!

This information is from a very good source....

CCleaner lets you specify exactly what types of items it can delete.
You can also choose to analyze your disk first. Then you can preview everything that CCleaner plans to delete.
And it automatically makes backups if it cleans your Registry.
CCleaner gives you the option to delete unessential start-up programs.
That means unessential to run Windows. You can find this option in the Tools menu.
But be careful if you use it.
The list can include anti-virus monitoring programs. You'll want to keep those and other security start-up programs.

No, history is not the same a cache. History means deleting (or otherwise removing) any cookies you have accumulated since the last time cookies were purged. Cache is where copies of web pages are stored. When you go to a website, if the site does not include a refresh parameter that tells the browser to always get fresh downloads, it will open the webpage from cache. This speeds up the presentation. (Cached pages are typically stored in the Temporary Internet Files location. Cookies are typically stored in the Documents & Settings/username location.)

Forgot to add

Clearing "history" may only remove the index file where the history of sites visited is kept. Most cleaners (not sure about CClean) do not remove cookies when clearing history. Most browsers allow you to 'manage' cookies much better than cleaners do, in that you can selectively delete cookies using the browser tools. This is especially handy when you use two browsers, such as Firefox as your primary browser and Internet Exploder as a secondary browser.
