Signing A Contract for Notary Services
I would like to know if anyone make changes to the contracts that the SS require? Do you accept the conditions? Do you negotiate after signing the agreement. I was advised to just take the signing and negotiate later. My issue is some of the contracts have very low rates and expect extensive service for it.

I ignore their contracts. I have not seen one I would sign. They tend to have absurd clauses in them - all in their favor. Since I am not willing to accept their conditions, why should I sign it. Sox sent me a very funny one; in return I sent them a revised contract. They did not want to sign it... lol.
If signing their contracts is a condition for being hired, they can go find inexperienced notaries who will accept the conditions.

WARNING!!!!!!! Some SS will give you signing and before they pay you have to sign (OK) thier contract. About 2 yrs ago, Reves-Hary called me to do a "RUSH" signing. I was on the road returning from another signing. Docs were waiting when I got back, I printed them and rushed to get to that (9 PM) signing. The next AM when I went on their website to report the completion and invoice I couldn't pass on line contract. Numerous calls on got " you will have to OK the on line contract to be paid for this signing".

Basically...sign if you must; ignore as needed. Or renegotiate when needed.

Most of the companies I work with have no signed contracts. Others will rush one to me to get me to do the signing. There are those with stupid conditions - they get pitched. If they want me bad enough, they will call and meet my fee.

if i am going to sign one [whis a very unlikely]....
i generally will make a lot of changes as most of the ones i have seen are unilateral at best....i need to protect my self as no one else will......most of the ones i have made changes to have been rejected and i don't get their business.....tough......i will survive with out it....there is also the probability of being construed as an employee if you sign a contract because of the demannds that they make.....and that could cause them to be liable for ss payments, witholding taxes and the like....they should be doing an independent contractor agreement that meets the requirements of the IRS......in short i do not sign agreements any more but then most of my work is with title co's direct...i only have about 4 signing agencies that i do work for, and have for many years........jmho
