The nice things that borrowers do
The previous day, DD posted about how a number of borrowers have abused him. I'd like to turn things around and tell about the nice things that some borrowers have done for me. One borrower provided written instructions on how to get to her home, which was forwarded to me along with the loan papers. I told her how much I appreciated her doing that when I called to confirm the appointment.
Another borrower gave me some cookies which her children didn't like. I gladly took them because it was EOM and I needed to treat myself.

Ah, yes - much has been said here about the nice things that BO's do for us - countless stories. My favorite was fresh eggs that someone received, I think they said quail, but I don't have the memory I had once so I could be wrong.
I met my current computer guru from a signing - I told him I got more for my $20 than he got from his $10 (only did one paper, he replaced my power source plus cleaned my tower, plus gave me plenty of advice, charged only $20 - wow!) I also received 13 boxes of laminate flooring from a contractor plus underlayment, tape and a DVD on 'how to'; champagne on a roof in the woods w/view of waterway, and these are just the spectacular ones. The many kindnesses just can't be listed. It is a wonderful life we lead.
I've only two horror stories - one about 5 years ago, one last week. In my previous livlihoods I had many more horror stories. The balance of the scales is clearly in favor of this line of work.

Hear, hear! I've had such a great time - great folks,
treats and fabulous conversations.
This is a perfect profession for me.

Me too. Bo called me this week in despiration the title company asked them to find a closing agent the wife was leaving the following morning and the loan package had to close that night, I was so busy but found the time to go over their house to close the loan. They will be friends for life, such lovely people. They both hugged me and called the following day to tell me how much they appreciated what I did. I've even had people ask me to have dinner with them or sleep over in their guest room cause I drove so far to help them out. Only twice have I had scarey problems over 9 yrs. Those aren't bad odds.

yes, I've had some wonderful experiences too, a borrower who makes home made wine, gave me a bottle on Friday, she was just so sweet, another borrower a couple yrs. ago gave me a cabbage and pumpkin from his huge garden. Plus I've had the gifts I really don't want to take home when offered kittens on a couple of occasions. Generally have pretty good experiences.

I posted also about the abusive borrowers and if I had to
start keeping a list is the day I quit. Well, I had one from hell on Sat am. I spoke too soon. But this is only the 2nd in 4 years.
Docs say Gene Mantle (not real of course) ID says James E. Mantle Names are not even close.
He tells me he goes by Gene and that is short for Eugene (the middle inital). What??? I tell him that the middle initial E could stand for Edgar, Edward, Earl etc etc etc. We dig further. Mortgage is vested as Gene Mantle aka James E. Mantle. Great, we can sign with the aka. Call title and they agree to sign it all using the aka. Loan saved, so you would think. He signs 1 doc, the HUD and puts 3 holes in the paper doing so. I asked him to please sign a little lighter as we can't put holes in the paper. He gets up and I honestly thought he was going to hit me. He then gets very verberly abusive. I sat back in my chair and just asked him to sit and lets just talk a bit, about anything but the loan. Lets just all calm down and chat a bit. He wouldn't do any such thing. I tried so very hard to get him to understand my job in the process and why it is so important that I have the correct person. He starts yelling and cussing at me again and throws something on the floor so I stand up, pack up my things and head for the door. He tells me to rot in hell on the way out. There was just nothing I could do to try and make him see my point of view about correct idenity. He could still sign the name he goes by but he has to add the aka, that's it. It's no problem. But, he just didn't see why. Some people are hardheads and no matter what you try and do, they know better. Well, he didn't get his loan and he didn't get the cash out he wanted either, at least for now. Not my problem. My heart was beating fast when I got out to the car and was glad to be safe as I drove away. Thankfully this doesn't happen very often. Most of the time the borrowers are so very very nice and we chat and have a great time. The other night I met a borrower that we shared the same Uncle (from different sides of the family) who I was with when he died at the hospital. We both cried and hugged each other. This took almost 2 hours to complete because we couldn't stop talking. I have found a new relative I didn't know I had. It was absolutley awesome. I love my job and that is because of the beautiful people I meet. There are all walks of life in this job. We do the best we can and move on. Sorry so long.

Pfft, what a JERK!
My first thoughts about this idiot - people who ARE trying to scam things can be the pushiest at trying to bully someone. I'd put up with that about as long as you, Linda.
The last time someone tried to pull one over on me (and on everyone else) was a borrower on title with his mother, mother didn't KNOW anything about the loan, nobody caught that it was his mother and NOT his wife - until I hit the door. Wife & mom had same first name - middle initial different. OMG the stories I was told by these two liars! Liars lie - no problem, small lies, big lies, once they have the skill and audacity - it's all the same to them. They psych themselves into believing their own lies, and come at you as if were all the truth.
I played sort-a dumb, putting the blame on beauracracy and not my intuition, hiked on out 'to get things corrected'. The real fun part? Going back 3 days later to sit with him, his wife, and his MOTHER, no cash out this time and it was the most silent closing table I ever sat at! LOL!

Re: Pfft, what a JERK!
Had a signing Friday for one of our mutual companies. Husband wasn't told that wife had to be there just to sign a QCD. Really nice guy but.... he says "wife is upstairs, I'll take it up to her and have her sign it." Of course I say nope, she needs to come down and bring her I.D. "Oh. In that case she's not here, she's out getting her nails done." Nice try. He calls her and gets her there to sign.

Re: I posted also about the abusive borrowers and if I had to
I told my mother about the mean borrowers I've read about here and experienced personally and she told me, "There's always going to be people like that". So as you say,do the best you can and move on.

One time I made a second trip to a couple to have them sign additional papers a week after signing their loan package, and we chatted a little over glasses of pomegranite soda after they were done, since I had no other appointments that night. They remembered I enjoyed pomegranite soda the first time I had come to their home.

If a borrower offered me a puppy, I'd want to take it home.

Yes, the majority of people we deal with are great. I'm almost always offered something to drink, etc. There have been one or two tense situations through the years, but there is usually a way to diffuse those. I love the Phillipinos who insist you eat or they send something home with you.

Yes, the borrower who offered me a package of cookies was a Filipina.
