Title Clerk work

Has anyone ever done this sort of work as their FT job? I have a job interview with a car dealership in my area. Sent a resume - didn't expect to get an interview but they did call me.

I did many moons ago. Depending on the state you are in, there really isn't much notary work involved. If you are asked to notarize something you'll be asked to notarize with out witnessing. It's basically just breaking down the package from F&I and sending paperwork to DMV and the lender.

how do they expect you to notarize without witnessing?

A lot of GMs expect it. JUST SAY NO!

As PA notaries know, title work here is different than in most states. I really don't know but you'll find out when you go in - perhaps there is someone here with PA experience but I don't recall anyone ever posting to that effect. I'd imagine you'll need to take the PennDOT classes and 'certification' or whatever it is they require, plus the additional bond ... maybe that goes with the dealership but I wouldn't think so.

Think about every time you've purchased a vehicle? Has the notary ever been in the room? You aren't going to be working every hour the dealership is open so they get paperwork signed when someone is ready to buy and it's on your desk in the morning.

The other responder indicated don't do it ... I'm certainly not saying do it (and I wouldn't for the barely more than minimum wage you're probably going to be offered) and I'm not saying it's right but if that's the way they work and you "won't do it" you won't get the job. Ever been to a PA auto auction? The notaries are sitting isolated in a middle room notarizing away ... no customer ever comes into contact wih them ... unless things have greatly changed in the past decade.

I reread the other posters comments ... I'd check with PAN because in PA there is A LOT more involved than breaking down paperwork. You will be doing all the PennDOT forms, sales tax, licensing, vehicle transfer, etc., and while most are probably straight transactions, there are A LOT of odd ball situations that you will need to know how to handle ... and I'm guessing like any job that comes with experience and knowing who to ask when the situation arises.

Re: PA auction

My son recently purchased a vehicle at a PA auto auction. He and the seller had their title notarized in the presence of a Notary.

I'm going to go ahead and interview but after checking a salary calculator on the internet might not be the pay I need but we shall see. Anything is better than what I have right now.

Re: Good luck

my husband doesn't want me to go. Says it's too chancy with the state of automobile industry right now and they probably won't pay me as much as I am making now. ugh
