Brother Drum Reset

The drum light is flashing on my brother 5250. I searched and found a trick to reset the counter back. I tried opening the door and pressing the go button until all four lights came on...it's still flashing ~ any other suggestions? Printer is working fine.

I'd like to know that myself. I'm about to call Brother support. It seems that every time I put in a new drum the light still comes on, like the machine doesn't know the drum's been changed.

I used to know how to reset b/c I called Brother a long time ago. I lost the instruction. When I called again, they wouldn't give it to me for some reason. I don't care how long the light flashes, I will not replace the drum until It stops working.

I have a brother HL-5240, not the same as yours but this might work for you-

1.Make sure the printer is turned on and the drum light is blinking and open the front cover.

2.Press and hold the "go" button for approx 4 seconds until all of the LEDS light up.Once all of the lights are on, release the "go" button.

That should do it.

BTW, I got this information off of the Brother website.I've reset mine 3 or 4 times and the print outs still look very good.I did buy a replacement drum unit only for approx. $ 35.00 off of e-bay, which is much cheaper then replacing the whole unit which will set you back as much as a new printer.

Thanks, I tried that, it didn't work Frown I looked online, I can get a new printer from Costco for under $200. Anyone know how long this printer will print once the light starts flashing? With toner it's an immediate shut down!

I have a Brother MFC 8440, this may or may not work for you. Leave the cover open where the drum is at and push the CLEAR/BACK button, a sreen should come up that ask if you replaced the drum. Select Yes and close the door.

Why would you buy a new printer. There has to be a way to reset it. Also, I get my replacement drums from LD Products (same place I get toner carts). They aren't that expensive.

Did you make sure and take the drum out of the printer? I have the same model and it will only reset if you press and hold down GO without the drum inside HTH. :-)

My last Brother would go about 3-5,000 more pages when the drum light came on. I would not change it until you could no longer see the text. Yes, I wasted some paper...but I get a good deal on that too.

LD Products is your best bet for drums and toner.

Thanks, at least I think I can get through the weekend. I was really afraid to take any jobs today. I'm going to pick up a new printer, install it and wait until this one stops.
