You will find that if you post often enough on NotRot, you become part of the "family". It's understood that you want to keep some things private - but as you can see, no one has said anything derogatory about you possibily filing BK.
It's really OK, consider yourself amongst friends here.

Lucy - with the economy the way it's been, there have been so many people filing BK that it's now considered pretty much common.
Nothing to be ashamed of at all. Only by the Grace of God, go I.

There are so many stories, good and bad, from credit couns., debt reduc companys, ect... Don't trust these companies and so on....it makes it scary to trust anyone these days. My husband makes good money yet bills are behind. It's all going to pay interest only on credit cards and its sickening. I am praying to God everyday for help and guidance. God is great and I know he will lead us to the right place for help.

Lucy, please scroll down and see my post on the "Debt Consolidations" thread. The Dave Ramsey program is awesome IF you are disciplined and follow the steps. It's message # 299299.

I should have also said.
Back about 20 years ago, I found myself in what seemed like an impossible situation. I negotiated with my creditors, sold stuff, worked another job on the side and got out of it without going BK.
My daughter and her husband went another route and went BK in 2005. Last December, their credit was good enough to buy a house and they now have a 700+ credit score.
Looking back, it might have been better on me from a health standpoint to have filed, as I wound up having to take a little time off due to exhaustion. But that was my mindset at the time. I was embarrassed by my situation. Hindsight is 20/20 and the BK laws have changed since then, so you will have to look at your situation, and get some input from an attorney. Health is something you can't buy.
Best wishes to you. I feel your pain .....

Re: I should have also said.
Like you Glenn, I agonized for almost 2 years about what to do with my financial picture and just couldn't file bankruptcy - I was so ashamed. Then one day I talked with a lawyer and he sent me a package. In it was a list of reasons why to file quickly, the first being: When you see you're in real trouble, file immediately before you trash your credit, the reasoning being that you have a problem, get rid of it and your past history will speak for itself. I had already trashed mine, took another 6 months of pondering, agonizing and being literally sick before finally filing.
This is not to be taken lightly - serious consequences affect you for a long time. Banks won't touch you for 10 years; retailers and auto dealerships will take you almost immediately as you can't file bkrptcy again for quite a while. Of course, the whole economic picture has changed since 1999 so I don't know if this is still the prevailing attitude with businesses these days. The road, whichever one is taken, is not easy but one does learn so much in the process.
A decision must be made; making no decision is still making a decision to do nothing.

I think you've already received a lot of assurance that your post & info isn't anything to be worried about. Besides that, your name is not linked to your profile, which would reveal who you were w/all the details. Good luck.

True, Dave Ramsey's program takes approx two years to pull yourself out of debt - of course it depends how much debt you have.
