Unbelievable!

My husband and I are working an auction here in Phoenix. I received a sample file today. It shows the buyer's complete DL (alright, the picture is too dark to see) as well as a copy of their personal check. No numbers are blacked out!

What is a "sample file?" Is that an auction term?

It's a home auction. The sample file given to us for training purposes has the personal info of an actual buyer who bought a property at an auction in CA.

Shoshanna, I didn't know you were a Garage Sale Queen!

Do you post any of the stuff you are selling online? I LOVE buying a bargain! Please provide a link if you post it online. I never know what I will find I may want. That's a fun business you're in!

ARE YOU FOR REAL?

If I was having a garage sale, I'd post it in Leisure.

Okay, Garage Sale Queen LOL

You weren't clear in your post. You've clarified that a bit now. You said:

"It's a home auction. The sample file given to us for training purposes has the personal info of an actual buyer who bought a property at an auction in CA."

I'm guessing now that this is some kind of make believe foreclosure sale that you got. If it's just training, how do you know the data is real on the check, or otherwise?

Sorry you don't have any bargains for me! LOL

Re: Okay, Garage Sale Queen LOL

It's a real CA DL and a real printed check with all the numbers at the bottom.

I don't think that John realized foreclosure auction.

Made me go look at my training materials - also not redacted as yours weren't. Mine didn't have DL, but did have lots of identifying info including personal check and cashier's check that she endorsed, plus other signature lines. Many copies were left lying around by end of day. Scary!

Nite Shoshana, gotta go to Dallas tomorrow...

Won't see this thread again until Monday, and that would be only if I looked at it again, which I probably won't.

Have a GREAT weekend!

That is scary--no protection for purchaser/buyer at all. I would wonder about the credibility of the people running the auction. It's a real estate transaction, and as far as I know they're bound by the GLBA.
