Flat screen monitor problem...anyone?

This is the 2nd time this has happened. First flat screen died in less than a year and now this one has died in a tad over a year. With both, they were working just fine. Then for some good reason, I shut them down to reboot and pfffft. Working now on a 12 inch antique monitor dug out of my garage. Any ideas? Anyone?

My flat screen is 3-4 years old. It went out on me

once. Video card needed to be replaced. When the tech came out he said it would've gone out sooner had I been a gamer. The problem may not be the screen but the video cards you're using.

I have really never given this much thought. But since my first and only flat screen is approaching 4 years old, I guess I will pay attention.

The only thing I was told by a geek friend of mine is install the software that came with the screen before you hook it up if you can and once you turn it on, don't durn it off. Let the computer and software do that. Plus don't go into the settings and try to tweak the refresh rate. Use the defaults, as they are set for maximum life. And since he is a gamer and is always burining things out, including monitors, (it's just his thing) by trying to tweak settings, overclocking the processors and uses terms like "water cooling", I took his advice. His garage looks like the Las Vegas neon sign graveyard.
