Generator

Had to cancel a signing due to bad weather here in PA.

Those of you in areas where you can lose power should consider a buying a generator. You will be able to stay in business during power failures. Depending upon the size of the generator, it can run your computer, printer, lights, TV, and many other appliances.

We even put in a transfer switch so that most of the house runs off the generator during failures. It will not run a whole house air conditioner, but it provides power to most of the house and keeps us comfortable and in business.

Yep yep....a "can't do without" item

When we bought our house here in 2006 the first thing we did was get a generator - it's wired in, kicks in within 30-45 sec of an outage and runs everything but our stove and a/c. (Microwave is hooked in so that and grill for cooking, and we if a/c is needed we have window units we can use) When the whole street is out we're comfy cozy and powered up!! I have to say it's the best investment we've ever made since we lose power out here many times for no apparent reason...

Re: Yep yep....a "can't do without" item

I am one of the lucky ones. A couple years ago we had a pretty bad ice storm. Millions were without power throughout the St. Louis metro area. I live in a pretty small town, but the salvation was is that we have our own power plant. We did not have to wait for the "big" company to come to hook us all up and fix everthing. Our guys stayed in our town and got the job done in a little more than a day. They were awesome. We were able to stay in our home and burn the fireplace and cooked on the gas grill. They got a couple places in town up and running first to use for shelters. I did have to turn down a couple closings but not really worth it to me to buy a generator. If I lived in the North or Northeast, I'm sure its a different story. I know to you Floridans, I do live in the North, but there is a lot more North than where I am. Did that make sense? lol

In most areas, you don't need a large or expensive generator. I have owned a generator of one kind or another nearly all my adult life. I can't tell you how many times it "saved the bacon". If you are without power for an extended period, you don't need to run it constantly (especially if you have an "evil" wood stove to heat your house that doesn't require power. A couple of hours on the referigerator and it's good to go for several hours without power.

I have a portable honda EU2000 puresine wave power generator and that little thing has saved me many times here in sunny CA.

Absolute must in Hurricane Alley

In 2004, after the third hurricane to hit us, we lost our power for 25 days. If it wasn't for the generator, things would have been pretty bad. We even had Sylvia and Bruce (and the dogs) visiting us because they were evacuated. Don't want to do that again. Full house generator, though not an automatic 'on', is the only way to fly.

We have one and it is great! No need to worry about losing our food and we can make coffee too! We keep warm with our woodburners. We are set for the winter. Northeast Ohio weather can be bad!

Let me be a bit clearer

When I said "Don't want to do that again.", I meant going through three hurricanes and loosing power for 25 days.

Paul, You / me...we are definitely kindred spirits. I have the best intentions sometimes and infer the worst when I email or post. I read your post and did not even see the negative meaning because I know you would never say that. Now that you mention it though, I get it. He he he.

I think probably everyone who knows you is aware that having Sylvia and Bruce with you for those days in '04 were warm memories for you all. It was a very neat thing to happen. Not their misfortune, but that you guys were able to help them.

I got (understood) that you did not say what you meant and meant what you said. At least, not in its entirety. Now did I say what I mean and mean what I said? I think so. LOL

I know I heard you say what you said you didn't say, but I also knew you didn't mean
what I heard you say in the way you said it...
