JMT

Did anyone receive a call for JMT regarding having a smart phone or a blackberry?
They say that is the way they want to schedule their assignments. They asked if we would be willing to purchase one and pay the monthly charges.

I am in Ca and have not received any call like that...

Me either. But, if they're paying for it, do they make the arrangements with whichever service provider then send you the phone -- so bill does directly to them?

They are not paying for it. They requested that the notary purchase the smart phone, blackberry and pay the charges.

Why wouldn't mobile e-mail be sufficient?

I don't have a smart phone, so I have no clue - but wouldn't it mean they're just wanting you to be able to receive e-mails through your phone? I can do that ...or is that really all they wanted?

Re: Why wouldn't mobile e-mail be sufficient?

I don't know if they just want you to be able to just access e-mail.
He said they want you to have internet access. So he suggested a blackberry

I hope they're willing to pay an adequate fee

for their signings and for their notaries' compliance with this requirement.

Re: I use a BlackBerry & it is really handy for

receiving emails, using a map, going on-line to post updates on a TC's or signing service's web site, etc. My carrier is T-Mobile & they offer unlimited anytime, anywhere minutes for $49.95 plus the BB package wh/ is about $20. I know others are paying $120 - $130 for roughly the same service w/ other carriers, e.g.; Verizon. The T-Mobile offer is (I think) a nationwide offer so it seems like it's a pretty good deal if they've got good coverage in your area.

But you certainly don't need a BB, or any other smart phone, to receive emails where ever you are. If you have a wireless notebook, it accomplishes the same purpose.

They are kidding, right?

JMT wants it's notaries to take on an extra expense when they whine and moan when the notary wants more than $50 per job?

This is the same company that, on more than one occasion, declined to pay me more than $75 for an assignment more than 200 miles round trip. I don't think so.

If being able to check my email while mobile isn't good enough, tough.

My daddy used to say that people in hell want ice water.

I agree with Glenn. $50 apptments are hardly worth it.

It sounds to me that JMT has a side business now.

and you are their contact...LOL.

Interesting to see if others get the same offer. Was it a deal you couldn't refuse?

Hmm? I didn't get the feeling that they

were selling phones, but maybe I'm wrong. (I've only read Pat/wa's post.)

My mind always jumps to ulterior motives...profit is

always a strong one. Who does this deal profit? Not Pat - (s)he can get her/his own probably at same cost, so why?

Why waste time thinking about a company

that doesn't pay well regardless of what kind of suggestion they're making to their database of notaries?

If having a smart-phone or a notebook will facilitate your business, and is, consequently, cost-effective, then find a good plan and get one. If it doesn't, then don't worry about it.

It doesn't matter what JMT does or doesn't want you to have, if they're not a client-relationship you want to cultivate.

This co. is a big enough pain with their trying to schedule via blast e-mails so the notary is doing all the hoop-jumping. Now they want you to do it via a smart phone---that costs a bunch while they pay next to nothing? And after you spent your time & dime, it's assigned to someone else who is cheaper...or maybe just faster? Time to say b-bye. They need a better business plan.

I got a call yesterday from JMT, just after 4 in the afternoon. First call, can you do a signing in San Bernardino at 6 p.m.. I responded with yes but not at the 50 dollar fee you generally offer. I quoted my fee, it's 20 miles down the mountain and that's not even knowing the exact address yet. I quoted my fee, the caller said I will speak with my co worker(translation call around for another notary) and if we can get this approved, I will call back.

Phone rings a bit later, they want to raise the fee but not to meet my request. I stand my ground, she now approves the fee and automatically adds another 25 dollars because she now says it's edocs. She then also adds it's not in San Bernardino but in Apple Valley. I said well I can't accept the latest fee you offered for that area. I said I can recommend a notary in that area. She says I have a list for that area, she says this in a testy tone.

Phone rings about an hour later, signing was supposed to be at 6 or 6:30 I think. I didn't even bother to answer the call. They must be having trouble getting a notary.

Obviously in their efforts to pay the notary the least amount of money and they earn the greatest cut. They may have had difficulty finding a notary, never mind the bad weather conditions currently in the area.

JMT pays timely(extremely low fees) docs generally sent to borrower, small package and most often already sent to borrower, easy package, few notarizations in the package. I will do these when time permits and within miles of my home. Otherwise, no thanks. They also have their person call the same day, a reminder message about the signing scheduled for that day. This too is annoying, for the organized person.

JMT office staff seems to dislike the fact they need to hire notaries at all. They have a process to call in, press one to accept the order, for me all a waste of time but ok I'll do as you request.

This is a company that I would never bend over backwards for because they seem to be lacking in a general respect for the notary and simple kindness to another human being, period. I always resent a company being greedy and this seems to be true of JMT.

I, as the notary also need to work in a cost effective manner. When and if I accept an order in Apple Valley, I have to be able to get out the backside of the mountain and we currently have snow. I have to be certain there is no flooding in the valley below as I take the back way to get to Apple Valley. My drive will be at least 40 miles one way and that's only if I can get through and there are no road closures, now for this, JMT wants to pay me 50 dollars. They then respond with "well we have no fax backs, no printing, yadda yadda yadda" I won't even make 50 dollars from this deal. I would be foolish to operate my business this way.

If your post wasn't so true, it would be funny.

*Phone rings about an hour later, signing was supposed to be at 6 or 6:30 I think. I didn't even bother to answer the call. They must be having trouble getting a notary.*

I like that part. While I know that we are all certainly Bionic Notaries who do not have a life, let me just be honest. I just don't jump up and GO at the drop of a hat like I used to. If they had continued to annoy me with repeated negotiations I would have let the phone ring, too by 6 or 6:30 pm.

I was also asked if I had a smart phone. (I do not). I have did numerous signings for JMT, have had no problem with getting the money I ask for, getting paid in a very timely manner and such. Most of the signings I have did for them has been close to my home and the neogtiated fee has been worth my time. Thanks...
