A question for multi-lingual notaries
I assume the documents are written in English, so how deep do you go into "explaining" the docs? It seems to me that one could get into a world of trouble down the road, if the borrowers complain that they were done badly by the mortgage company and that you were the one who conducted the closing.
It becomes they said, you said and in today's climate I believe you'd come out on the losing end.

Re: A question for multi-lingual notaries ~ at least in Ca
some times the loan docs are written in Spanish but that can be little comfort. I recently did a loan where the loan docs were absolutely atrocious in their use of the Spanish language. the docs were obviously written by someone with very limited knowledge of the language fortunately the docs were supplied in both English and Spanish. As a licensee of the DRE I don't have a problem explaining the documentation, it is within my purview

I was wond ering about that - not that a Notary has to or wants to, but at least I know they CAN (if they're a licensee of the DRE).....thanks.

...it can be tricky, seriously borderline UPL....
we have to be careful not to fall over to the UPL side...this is why I charge more for spanish speaking closings...they take sooo much longer than regular closings...the explaining is just so much!
