NotaryRotary Suggestion: Twitter Address

Harry,

On our profiles, below email and website addresses is an open space. Is there any chance you'll add a field for Twitter addresses? Is that being discussed or considered?

I would love for more signing and title companies to "follow me", as all of my tweets are business related. Hmmm....now that I think about it, that may not be a great idea for this site, as it could encourage schedulers to go direct to notaries, and not visit NotaryRotary???

Thoughts?

Hi Michelle.

We had a saying in corporate America: KISS. Keep it simple, stupid. The simplest way for someone to hire us is to come to a site such as Notary Rotary, put in a zip code, find a phone number and call.

It is so impersonal to email, twitter, facebook. The next best thing to a face to face meeting is a phone call where you can here the other person's voice.

I am not sure what you would be trying to accomplish. I do have a couple of clients that will email me with work, but that is only because we have already agreed on a fee schedule. We still follow up with a phone call.

But what if you have to negotiate a fee? Do you twitter back and forth? That is so impersonal and time consuming. This is one time where an actual phone call is best. Not to mention it's a lot quicker.

Of course, I am open to debate ... I just don't think twitter serves any purpose in our line of work. I actually think Twitter doesn't serve any useful purpose at all. I don't have any use for test messaging on phones, either. But that's just me. I like the personal touch.

Hi Glenn,

I guess you could tell half way through my post I started have second thoughts as well. Twitter is one of those things that unless you use it, you dont' see any use in it. Has it made me any money? Not directly. Has it improved my website's SEO, yes. I believe it has. Has that made me money. Yes, definitely.

However, I still agree with most of your comments. In no way shape or form would I try to pretend that adding Twitter to our profiles is of the utmost importance. : )

What's your cell phone number, Glenn? I'm gonna send you text message. ; - D

Now here's where I drive my kids crazy .... I don't text. Don't even have it activated on my phone. It's voice, email or nothing. And my email, I only check a couple of times per day when working and never when I am on vacation. I do like not having to hunt down a pay phone when traveling, though.

I agree. No text messages here either. No email on the road either. Lots of times, I don't answer my phone while driving. That's what voice mail is for. I always check for messages and always return them as soon as I can. I always try to answer emails as soon as possible to.

I do verbal Tweets... all the time...

When I'm hanging out around the house...I live alone so I Tweet to the silence:

I'm going to make coffee now!
Wow, I just read the neatest thing.
OMG! I need to go to bed.
My dog is really tired now.
I'm wearing red today.
I love my house slippers.
What is that neighbor doing?
I ate soup for dinner. Yum!
Why isn't Dateline on tonight?
Where's the other shoe?
That ticks me off.
LOL! Here's that shoe.
I need to clean house but I'd rather verbally Tweet.

I'm just giving you a hard time, Michelle. I think Twitter has value since so many do it. I've been known to Tweet and Twitter!

Giving in on texting

According to Verizon, the speed on my wireless card is now the same as it would be using TetherBerry. The cost for the unlimited data connection is about $15 per month than my wireless plan that is limited to 5G per month. 500 text messages and unlimited mobile to mobile messaging is about $10 added expense. So my two year wireless card plan is up and I'm replacing my cell phone and the wireless card with a BlackBerry for about $5 a month less than what I'm paying now. I added the mobile to mobile for other work reasons and a title company client has been "kidding me" about my lack of texting. So, I will not pretend to be an expert at texting - perhaps a granddaughter will assist me. It will be nice to assess the web from the telephone.
