Phone suggestions
I am eligible to upgrade mine and my husband's cell phone and thought I'd try the Blackberry - I have a Motorola Krzr right now. Any comments?

I really don't need all the bells and whistles - just something to get text messages, phone calls and good camera phone for taking pics of ID - I'm not a "data" person...and same thing for hubby - phone, text messages and camera phone.

I am in the same boat ....
There are so many phones out there, my head is spinning. My kids think I should get an iPhone, and they are nice, but I don't do all that stuff. I don't even text. If my wife really wants one, though, I'll get her one.
I have a friend that got a NuviPhone. It's not really a smart phone, but it has a satellite based GPS built in that will work even if you don't have any service. You can also navigate the web. Not very many apps, but I don't need that stuff . He carries it while we are riding and hunting in the areas without service and it works well. He loves it. No need for a separate hand held GPS. What I can't get by is the service packages and the cost that they add to the monthly bill. Wow!
Even though I have had the same cell company and phone numbers since 1991 (LA Cellular became Att wireless became Cingular who changed their name back to Att) I am not locked into that company if I see a cost / service advantage through another company. Does anyone out there have a Droid or a phone using the Google Android system?
I would be interested in hearing about what you all are using out there.

I've heard the Blackberry can be used as a modem for laptops....not sure if it would be as good as having an aircard.

There are a lot of phones out there that can allow your pc to work wirelessly I've talked to a couple people who do that and they had no negative comments. When getting your phone make sure if you want just text and phone to just get a (what the teenagers call a "plain Jane" or else the carrier will make you take the internet package without having a choice.

I just switched from the Verison Air Card to Blackberry; I was very happy with the air card (aka piggy). But the Blackberry tethered seems to be even better.
I had no idea about the tetherberry; I'm going to try that next!

I've had a BlackBerry Curve for 2 1/2 years, and I love it -- although I'm probably due for a new one. Before that I had a Motorola v.60 so it was a major upgrade, and kind of a big learning curve -- but again, absolutely worth it.
To be able to receive confirmation emails when I'm running around is a godsend. I can call & confirm right away. There's a calendar & I can keep better track of my commitments so I don't inadvertently overbook. I can go online & update a TC's web site after a closing, or figure out where the nearest FedEx location is so that I can drop on my way to someplace else. It just really enables me to be much more efficient.
But I also know people w/ an iphone and that's a really great phone too. The iphone has 16GB (yes that's GB) of flash memory whereas my phone has only 256mg. So the iphone is really like a very small computer, and it can run a lot of fabulous applications. It's definitely the future of phones, & BlackBerry, Palm, droid, & other smartphones will have to find ways to catch up to it.
Start w/ who your provider is. Go on their web site and look at what they have to offer. That should help you weed out some of the choices. Have fun w/ it!

love,love,love my iphone
I had a $20.00 super simple phone i found on ebay for 2 yrs. I am not a techie, or fancy person. Having said that. I am so happy with you Iphone. I can check my emails, download files. Find my way when I am lost. That phone has saved me on a number of occasions and I have only had it a few months. And it is so simple to operate~

Re: love, love, love my iphone - reception strength?
I could have sworn that I read hear (or somewhere else) that the reception on the iPhone isn't as good as some other phones, so if you're in an area with low signal strength, that could be an issue. I have no personal experience with it myself, but have talked with others who love their iPhone.

Now 3 days into a new BB Tour and have grasped the basics
It replaced a cell and a wireless card. Verizon assured me that the download and upload speed for the tethering will be the same as the wireless card was. The only small disadvantage is the inability to call while doing an online e-sign. But, the Tour checks three e-mail accounts and has web access without having to tether. Lastly - added texting but my thumbs are really slow...
The tech support person suggested staying away from the Storm I or II. Have seen a lot of complaints about the Tour's track-ball, but so far this one's been fine.

Frances
What did you have before the HTC and how long have you had the HTC? Any problems.
I do know a few people who had iPhones and went to Verizon (mainly because the service was better in their area) with either the HTC or Droid and say that once you get use to the new operating system, they like it better than iPhone. Then again, my kids think I am nuts for thinking about anything else but the iPhone.

Re: Frances
Actually glen I had a LG Spyder but I wanted to have internet access and the Spyder did not afford that so after quite a bit of research I went with the HTC. I do love it except the screen is very sensative and I have fat fingers but it is intuiative and so after a couple of weeks of using it either I got better or it learned my ways. Anyway, the only complaint I have and it is actually one of just not being told by Cellular South when I purchased the phone, is the memory. I ended up back in Cellular South asking what my phone locked up. After I bought a bigger memory card I was right back up and running. I still haven't figured out how to do all the cool stuff on there yet but I downloaded the 200 page manual and just took some time and went through it page by page. The apps I use work great. GPS is good, Internet and email notifications are great. Phone reception is wonderful for me. I love my carrier as opposed to ATT and Verizon which are also available here but not nearly as reliable.
Enough info for you? Sorry if I rambled on but I do love my phone and I got it on sale which made it even better.
