Printer Issues
I did a search but can't find my problem. I had to replace my desktop in the last couple of weeks and am now running Windows 7. I have a Brother HL5140 with an additional tray. Windows found and upgraded the driver for my printer so I can print, but it doesn't seem to recognize the second tray. I tried using Brother's FAQ's to solve the problem, but the tab that is referred to (can't remember the name) doesn't show up any longer. Any suggestions?

You might want to call microsoft on this one and get a tech on line to fix the problem.

Check with Brother to see if they have an updated, Windows 7 driver for your printer. I would much rather get my drivers from the device vendor/manufacturer rather than from Microsoft.

Brother has no Windows 7 drivers for 5140 or 5150 but
they claim that the vista drivers will work. I have only played with 7 a little, but there still is a control panel, printers, then right click on the printer icon, choose properties then choose accessories. You have to install the second tray and also identify what tray holds what size paper before it will work. If you tried to install the driver using your CD that came with the printer, then that could be the problem. Download and install the Vista drivers from the Brother website.

Don't try to use the windows update or install from the Brother CD. It won't work properly as most of those CD don't have the Vista drivers on them, even if they say so. There was a service notice that came out sometime back from Brother (that is why you should register your hardware) that the proper Vista drivers were not on the CD shipped with many of these printers.
Before you install the drivers from the website, uninstall the ones on your computer ....
Good Luck ..

They do have 7 "utilities"
That may make the drivers function correctly. In any case, download them from Brother, not from anywhere else.

Re: Brother has no Windows 7 drivers for 5140 or 5150 but
Thank you! A light bulb finally lit, and I figured it out. I was opening "Properties" after right clicking and needed to open "Printer Properties." Once I did that and chose paper size for Tray 2, it started to work. I appreciate all the help.
