Why Was I Bestowed This Honor?

In this morning's batch of e-mail messages was one from none other than the revered (not!) NNA. Things must really be hitting rock bottom when they start soliciting old members (yes, I was a newbie back in 2001 & made the mistake of joining their "organization" for a very short period of time). I just hope I don't have to threaten them within an inch of their lives like I had to do back in 2003 when they kept sending solicitation messages in spite of my directives to the contrary. We'll see.

Dennis if "they" have your email address you can expect many more. Afraid "their" glory days are over. Wonder how many of us "Old" notaries would ever do it again? Things are veryyy tight "they" are no exception. What comes around , goes around. "They" sure made life hard for notaries. They will be waiting a very long time for $$$ from me. Ha!

Re-joined under pressure, not happy

Two of my very best contacts refused to use me if I did not have a current NNA BGC. No other BGC was acceptable. I felt blackmailed but the amount of money I make off of these two companies more than made up for the cost of joining.

In My Opinion...

...that is as close to blackmail as it gets. Just one of the many reasons the NNA will never get another dime from me.

Re: In My Opinion...

You would if paying them $99 is going to earn you $1000. Still its blackmail, I don't know why some companies think that only NNA can get you a proper BGC.

Of Course...

...the NNA will claim they're not the one making the requirement & for all intents & purposes that'd be a true statement. However even if there's no collusion involved on the NNA's part it doesn't bother them one bit if a signing service or title company places that condition on a Notary. Who benefits in the end? Always follow the money when it comes to the NNA.

Re: Re-joined under pressure, not happy

YMMV but I have refused twice to comply. And they got over it. One co. actually paid for their in-house one for me. When you MUST pay 10% of potential (and that's all it is at the time) income just to work for a co.--something is wrong with the picture. Not condeming you--but the blind insistance of any co. about only accepting one particular co's CBC. It makes me wonder where the money-trail leads.

Has anyone complained to the FTC about restriction of

trade? There is a possiblity since NNA crosses State lines in their business that some of the anti-trust laws apply. It doesn't matter much to me because as far as I'm concerned they are moot even though I initially got my NSA cert through them.

Re: Has anyone complained to the FTC about restriction of

Apparently somone did. I was getting calls from the Dept Of Justice last summer in regards to the practices and policies of the XYZ. I don't know what ever came of it, or if anything ever did.
But they were asking questions pertinent to this post.

Yes, I'm sure they're hurting. I got an email about E&O Insurance. I recently renewed mine through NotRot instead.

I may have lots of sympathy for some going through these difficult times, but they made their own bed... This is a classic example of "what goes around comes around". The only way I can imagine considering renewing my membership would be if there was a change in ownership, a public denounciation of their old tactics, and solid evidence of a change in business practices towards truly looking out for the interests of the nation's notaries public.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either!
