American Freedom Assurance
Has anyone done a closing for this company? I did one in December, 2008 and only got paid the $10.00 ($125.00 fee) notary fee on the HUD. They said they will pay the balance after 30 days. Not done. I received a call today for a closing later this month and not sure what to do.

I did a closing and got a check for $5 for a notary fee and at about 45 days got a check for the balance.

That's crazy! Why would they send the fee for one notarial act and then send the balance 45 days later? That makes no sense to me and I've never had any other company do that.
I have been called by AFA several times - each time asking me to sign up with them as they have many closings in my area since they are so busy. They asked if I could handle faxbacks or scanbacks and such (yes I can). I sent in all the info they requested but I have NEVER received a call for an actual job from them.

Wondering...
Is this some goofy way of not paying you for a cancellation at table or rescission? "After all, you did get paid for the notarization...but we don't pay trip fees or anything else if it cancels." ???? I've seen some strange stuff, but this does take the cake.

Re: Wondering...
The Notary fee is on the HUD, so they pay it at funding. Why they don't pay the rest of the fee then is a mystery. BTW, the part of my fee based on notarizations, at $5 for each signature, would have been more than $5.
