MIS/Cleveland OH.

I just today received two checks from MIS for signings mid-November. The checks were cut 1/2/09.
I post this as there were some past posts stating concerns about payment. I’ve worked for them for years, and will continue to do so. I have always been paid. Great company to work for.

My problem with them was the fact that they said they pay in 30 days and I didn't rcv a check until it was almost at 60 days. If I take a closing and am told of their payment schedule, then I expect payment then. I don't like taking appointments from companies before Halloween and not get paid until Christmas. That being said, I have worked for companies knowing ahead of time that they pay with 45-60 days and have no issues with that. Although I do not make habits of taking many of them. Anyways, I'm glad you have gotten paid.

The problem is that they used to pay promptly. In 2006 and 2007 they paid in 2 - 3 weeks. Then in 2008 it went to 30 days and now notaries are reporting it's 45 - 60 days. There's a pattern here that we have learned via EFS and others that should not be ignored.

In today’s economic environment, with everyone from GM to your local shops going belly up, not getting paid is a chance we all risk. With MIS I’ll take the chance…maybe the next one I do for them I’ll not get paid? ..If so it will be my last.

It's fine to take the risk as long as it's with eyes wide open - and you have stated that yours are. I take risks sometimes too. Took one in September with The Closing Group and had to fight for my money - but I got it!

About the only thing we can do is check here on NotRot to see how good companies are about paying. Sadly there are no guarantees in these times.

About the only thing you can do is add a paragraph at the bottom of your invoice regarding bankruptcy to potential no pay companies. "If you/your company is knowingly filing for bankruptcy at the time you set this appointment you will still be liable for payment of this bill." Or if you suspect or have seen rumors on NR that a company calling you is floundering just come right out and ask them before you take the appointment.

It is fraud for a company/person to knowly incur debts or purchase items knowing that they are going to file or have already filed for bankruptcy.

Everyone have a great weekend Smile

... "If you/your company is knowingly filing for bankruptcy at the time you set this appointment you will still be liable for payment of this bill." ...

Do you truly think that statement would trump federal bankruptcy laws? If so, every entity in the entire country that bills their clients would use that phrase and the bankruptcy system would slow down to a crawl.

Smile No, it just makes me feel better. You'll never get your money. I just hate the idea that "the bad guys" think other people are just jerks and pawns in the great Game of Life. Just my way of letting them know we are not brain dead yet.

Re: sue_pa

My way of feeling better when my job upsets me is to curse at all the truck drivers up and down the road. Thank goodness we're doing 65 and the windows are up (need your smiley here)

I like that one too! Also a large Teddy Bear in the passenger seat just give him a good hard slap on his cute snout or choke when severely agitated. Just kidding Smile

Sue have a great weekend.
