I have 2000. I am not quite shure what your are asking here. I do some writing on the side and now have thousands of doc files on my computer now. Why would I want them all on my task bar? They are stored in my document folder on my computer in alphabetical order and I open my doc folder, not Word when I want to open one. Clicking directly on the document should automatically open Word provided you computer is set up correctly. If I want multiple documents open, I just keep clicking. If you want to open a doc file from the program window, then go to file, then open and it should take you to a list of your documents. Now if you are talking about a list of your most recent documents that shows when you click the file button, that is gone because you reloaded your computer. The list will grow again as you open and use documents.
Perhaps if you tell us what you use to do that you can't do now, it would give a better idea of what you want.
I use OpenOffice for most of my needs now. So I don't plan on getting a newer edition of Word.

no i don't want to open every word doc. i want to have 2 or
3 and see them in the task bar instead of having to click on the ONLY ONE that shows in the task bar, open it, and then go to window pull down menu and find the one and click on it makes it impossible to do what i need to do

Re: no i don't want to open every word doc. i want to have 2 or
Well, it sounds like we have our computers set up completely different. I don't use any list from Word or OpenOffice, when I want to run through my list of documents and perhaps make a small book, I split my screen, I have a list of all my docs on the left and have my word processing program on the split on the right. A wide screen was the best thing I have purchased recently for my computer.
You could try opening word and going to "tools" and then "options" and you might find what you need there to set up what you want. Sorry I can't be of more help with Word. It's not my favorite thing to use.
Setting up your computer to the way you like it evolves over a period of time and experience. I learned early in my computer experience to back-up often. And back up your system settings, not just your personal files. Your system settings determine how a program works and saves all the changes that you have made over time. Until a couple of years ago, I had a remote hard drive I backed up to at least weekly. It saves all your system and program settings so if you have a failure of some kind (and everyone does, I just lost a hard drive bearing a couple of months ago and it froze up) you can restore your documents and settings and when your computer is repaired and you restore your system, it's like you never had a problem. Without a backup of your system files, everything gets set to default values even if you back up all your documents. Then you get to start from scratch. And there are some things that I do now that I can't remember how I did it originally and without a full system backup, I would be in the same boat your are in. I would just have to work through it.
I now use an off-site backup system, Carbonite, to back up. It's what I was using when my hard drive blew up and it restored perfectly, like I never had a problem.

I also use OpenOffice because it is easier to operate.

Computer Idiot here running 2003
I minimize the Word doc I'm not using but still want to access quickly and it shows up on the bottom task bar. Also, if you right click on the task bar, there is a 'preference' window--which may or may not have something to do with it. Hope that helps and Good Luck.
