Per the MA website under the FAQs:
"Does a document have to be signed in my presence?
No and yes. Documents requiring acknowledgements do not need to be signed in the notary’s presence. However, the signer must appear before the notary at the time of notarization to acknowledge that he or she freely signed for the purposes stated in the document. An acknowledgement certificate indicates that the signer personally appeared before the notary, was identified by the notary, and acknowledged to the notary that the document was freely signed. On the other hand, documents requiring a jurat must indeed be signed in the notary’s presence, as directed by the typical jurat wording, "Subscribed (signed) and sworn to before me…." In executing a jurat, a notary guarantees that the signer, personally appeared before the notary, was given an oath or affirmation by the notary, and signed in the notary’s presence. In addition, even though it may not be a statutory requirement that the notary positively identify a signer for a jurat, it is always a good idea to do so."
So, obviously, the whole webcam idea is a bust.

Truly amazing! And how does that signature magically appear on a document that is in the possession of this so called "video notary"?! I wonder if they are actually getting away with this?
Did you read their home page? Read how they are saying notarizations by fax are illegal. Too funny!!

I am so pleased to learn that there is a real person behind every "meating". See the About Us page.

I'm going to fax a letter to the commissioning authority....
here in Massachusetts and will advise them of videonotary. If I get a response back, I will share it with you all.

Spelling challenged!
Capability's, meatings and ability's. Oh my, would a Fortune 500 company really hire someone or a company or whatever it is, that is lacking in basic grammer and spelling skills?

Re: Spelling challenged!
"basic grammer and spelling skills?"
Why is it that when people use this phrase to criticize others, it seems like they inevitably misspell "grammar"?

Re: Spelling challenged!
If you're quick enough to see it, there's a Flash animation at the top when the site loads that says "Please wate to be connected..."
I couldn't catch the rest of it (wasted about 10 minutes reloading and trying to freeze it - what can I say, I'm easily amused...), but that told me all I needed to know, even before I got to the "capability's", "ability's", and "meatings"...
But I'm curious - what is it exactly that goes on in a "meating"?

Video Notarizations - No Can Do
When I used to teach and give seminars, I brought up the "video notarization" as a No Can Do.
How does the notary know that there isn't someone under the desk or off-camera with a gun to the individual forcing him to sign? How does the notary when looking at the ID thru a computer monitor know that the ID is original and hasn't been altered ... or isn't just a photcopy with the excess paper cut off?
"Personal" appearance and "personally" identified is "reach out and touch someone." There are precedent setting lawsuits nationwide backing this up.
